When planning a vacation Massachusetts has plenty of things going on all through the year. Most people in North America get their vacation time during the summer months and this usually means that the summer season is packed with people exploring the state. When you vacation Massachusetts it good to plan ahead and know what kinds of events and festivals are happening. This can help greatly with making reservations on time and knowing what kinds of things to do are available when on holiday.


Spring is at its peak in Massachusetts from April until mid-June. North and west of Boston there are many cities and towns hosting festivals and events that celebrate the end of the cold season and the beginning of a spring when everything starts to bloom. Vacation Massachusetts at this time of year and the temperatures do vary but generally the days are at about 60 degrees and the evenings are cooler. Horseback riding, bike riding, shopping and visiting museums are quite popular in the springtime.


Vacation Massachusetts in the summer from the middle of June through to the start of September and you’ll find out how crowded it can get. This time is incredibly popular to vacation Massachusetts for both domestic and international tourists. Lakes, beaches and the coast fill up with happy holiday goers and reservations are best made well in advance.. This is a nice time for a Massachusetts getaway even though its crowded. Boston sparks anew with festivals and events and museums and galleries are well visited. During a Massachusetts getaway in western and northern Massachusetts temperatures are a little cooler at 70 to 80 degrees.


A Massachusetts getaway in the fall is quite popular as well affording some respite from the burgeoning summer surge. The fall season lasts from early September until November and fall foliage is at its prime until October, brightening the landscape with its brilliant show of colors. Temperatures are much like spring ranging from 55 to 75 degrees during the day and dropping to roughly 45 degrees in the evenings.


An “Indian Summer” usually happens in October throughout the region and there is a rise in temperature by several degrees lasting a few weeks. Fall is a great time visit any Massachusetts tourist attraction and offers temperatures that make camping, fishing, hiking and any other outdoor sport more enjoyable. In Boston this is a fantastic time to take in attractions such as the Museum of Fine Arts, walk the Freedom Trail, tour Harvard Square with its bustling student life, catch a game at Fenway Park or chill out at on Boston Common.


Though many people aren’t much for the cold winter months, taking in any Massachusetts tourist attraction at this time of year is extremely convenient as there are relatively little, if any major crowds. In winter there are still many things to do and see, most which can keep you indoors if you so choose. Winter lasts from December to March and typically 20-40 degrees and there is lots of snow, particularly in the west where downhill skiing, cross country skiing and ice fishing is at its prime.


Choose from any Massachusetts attraction in Boston that will keep you indoors if you prefer such as shopping, the Faneuil Hall Marketplace, Paul Revere House or the New England Aquarium. Another Massachusetts tourist attraction in winter is a trip to one of the many coastal cities and towns. Stay in a historic inn or bed and breakfast in New Bedford, Salem or Gloucester. Relax by a cozy fire and eat delectable foods. Enjoy a hot cup of coffee or cocoa while admiring the beautiful architecture and period antiques.


Though there are definitely peak times for traveling to Massachusetts, the state is so varied and interesting that there is something to do in every season.
