Detroit Tours Day Trips

Detroit has been investing in its appeal, and between the new Riverwalk Promenade and already-existing attractions, there are plenty of Detroit tours to fill your time spent here. Detroit day trips also offer interesting ventures to places outside the city where you can spend a day with your group or family. Day trips in Detroit can take you across the border into Canada, or can see you in a college town where the largest sports stadium in the country compliments an array of restaurants and culture. A good way to tour Detroit is to hitch a ride on the People Mover, which makes stops at some of the city’s most popular places. Cruise the automated train around downtown, or hop in the car and head just out of town for some exciting Detroit day trips.

One of the most popular Detroit tours ideas is to hitch a ride on the Detroit People Mover. This metro- train takes you around the city on a one-way route and features stops at varying points of interest. You can find the People Mover within reach of various downtown Detroit hotels and explore places like Joe Louis Arena and Comerica Park. Detroit Michigan casinos are popular and all three of them can be accessed off the people mover as well. Each offers entertainment and dining options and you can easily fill a day between just one or all three. Visiting Greektown off the People Mover is a popular choice for locals and visitors, and it is the liveliest part of the city with all kinds of entertainment and shopping. Also off the People Mover, you can access the city’s Riverwalk and take in views of Windsor and Detroit along the Detroit River. A popular place off the People Mover is Hart Plaza, which features a large fountain and on summer weekends you’ll find this is the spot for many Detroit Michigan events.

Another great option for day trips in Detroit takes you either out to the Detroit Zoo in nearby Royal Oak, or just out to Dearborn for the Henry Ford Museum. The Detroit Zoo was the first in the country to offer cageless exhibits and open air roaming for the animals. Kids will love the attractions like the Arctic Ring of Life, and the Australian Outback. And when you tour Detroit, you almost have to make a stop at the Henry Ford Museum. The collection houses some of the great American exhibits and is a tour through American innovation and history. Other popular museums can be found back downtown just south of I-94 flanking Woodward Ave. at the Detroit Cultural Center. Art enthusiasts should not miss the Detroit Institute of Arts found here. And of course, a visit to the Motown Historical Museum just west of there and the Lodge Freeway is a welcome stop on most Detroit tours. See where hits were made by The Jackson Five, Smokey Robinson, and many others.

Once you’ve had you fill of the city, which might take a while, try a couple Detroit day trips out of town. One of the popular day trips in Detroit is out to Mt. Brighton for Michigan skiing in the winter, and for some Michigan golf in the summer. It’s not very far and is a locals favorite. Another popular option for Detroit day trips outside the city is a drive to nearby Ann Arbor.

In Ann Arbor, you’ll find the home of the University Of Michigan. Between the trendy shops and the hundreds of restaurants, you are sure to have an amazing shopping and dining experience. The University of Michigan Museum of Art is the second largest art collection in the state, and as for university art collections, it is arguably one of the finest. You can also leave Detroit for Windsor, Ontario and experience the thrill just associated with entering another country! Just cross The Ambassador Bridge, or go under the Detroit River in the Windsor tunnel. Among the things to do in Windsor, you can tour the Canadian Club Distillery, stroll the 3 mile riverside walking path with views back to the Detroit skyline, or spend some time at the Windsor Casino. Don’t forget to shop a bit and take advantage of the exchange rate.
