Michigan events and Michigan festivals number in the thousands, so suffice it to say that whenever you visit the state, you are almost guaranteed to find a side fair, art show or music celebration. Besides bigger cities like Detroit, Lansing, and Grand Rapids, you’ll find many smaller, quaint towns and villages all with their local offerings for year round enjoyment of the arts, culture and entertainment. Of course, there is always the annual county fair in each region which is worth a tour if you happen to be in town. Jazz festivals are popular usually throughout the Summer, and you will find them in many different parts of the state. So if you are a big fan of the music genre, this might just be your state to visit this summer. Agriculture is alive and well in Michigan, and many festivals center around celebration of a popular area fruit. For example, you’ll find the Annual Blueberry Festival in Paradise, Michigan in August and the Cherry Festival every summer in Traverse city.
Over eight days in the month of July, the Traverse
City Cherry Festival is in full swing. The first Traverse
City Cherry Festival was held in 1926, and today over
500,000 people come to Traverse City each year to enjoy
this promotion of cherries, tourism and overall community
involvement. Around Traverse City you’ll find some
of the best Michigan wineries
and excellent Michigan golf and Michigan
hiking. Two of the other top Michigan festivals that
pull in a whole bunch of visitors are the Tulip Time Festival
in Holland, Michigan, and the
Ann Arbor Art Fair. The Tulip
Festival in Holland takes place every May when in this
Dutch heritage town over 6 million tulips open to fill
the city with color. Holland also showcases some of the
best Michigan beaches
nearby and plenty of other Lake
Michigan activities. Perhaps the top in Michigan events
as far as art shows go, the Ann Arbor Art Fair takes place
the third week of July, and is actually the combination
of four separate fairs, The Ann Arbor Street Art Fair,
the State Street Area Art Fair, the Ann Arbor Summer Art
Fair, and Ann Arbor’s South University Art Fair.

While some of the most notable festivals and events take place in the warmer months, Winter in Michigan offers a lot of Michigan events and Michigan festivals featuring such things as ice-sculpting contests, chili cook-offs, and ice fishing competitions. One of the most popular holiday celebrations is Winterfest, which you also find in Holland, Michigan. For two weeks, beginning in November and ending into December, Winterfest kicks off with a parade of lights and continues with dozens of other holiday events. You might consider spending your next German beer celebration at The Annual Frankenmuth Oktoberfest. Following in other Michigan festivals and Michigan events that celebrate cultural heritage, this German and Bavarian inspired village is a welcome visit during Christmas as well. And while you’re in the state for winter, why not try some Michigan ice fishing?
As for the state’s largest city, there are various
Detroit Michigan events you could choose from. Detroit
events not only encompass festivals, but also sporting
events and large venue concerts at places like the Joe
Louis Arena and Comerica
Park. The Summer is especially alive with Detroit
events including music, food and overall social gathering.
Get your taste of Detroit restaurant offerings, hit boutique
shops and take in music performances at the Comerica Cityfest,
which runs for five days beginning on the Fourth of July.
The Detroit Festival of the Arts in early June showcases
performing artists and visual works from all over the
world, as well as its own premier cultural institutions.

This 3-day motorsports festival features the American
LeMans Racing Series and the IndyCar Series races on Belle
Isle Park. Sports enthusiasts can find year round sporting

team, The Detroit Pistons basketball team, and the Detroit
Tigers baseball team
