Little Falls Minnesota

Little Falls Minnesota

Little Falls Minnesota is another small town in the state that enjoys a lot of appeal. Settled along the banks of the Mississippi River with a historic and charming downtown core, Little Falls MN occupies both sides of the Mississippi so the river and rapids remain a part of everyday life. Fishing, canoeing and kayaking are excellent things to do in the area due to the river’s situation.

Little Falls Minnesota is the hometown Charles Lindbergh Jr., the first man ever to fly across the Atlantic alone. In Little Falls a state park commemorating Lindbergh and his courageous feat can be explored. His home, Charles A. Lindbergh Historic Site, is open to the public for tours on Lindbergh Drive South.

Shopping in downtown in the city of Little Falls is a unique experience where you’ll be sure to find rare, meaningful treasures rather than big brand names. Downtown Little Falls is listed on the National Historic District and is the main artery highlighting the area’s history. Tour downtown and take a walk along the Mississippi River to the powered dam which sparked the growth of the city. The visitor center in town has brochures for scenic walking and driving tours.

Little Falls travel should include a trip to Maple Island Park and Gardens, another area attraction, where natural waterfalls were developed for power circa 1850. Industry in the city of Little Falls first started here and flourished into the city it is today. The park is a great place to enjoy a picnic or a leisurely stroll. Trees, shrubs and aromatic flowers have all been incorporated creating a beautiful backdrop to the historical site. Restrooms and picnic tables are available at the shelter.

Bird lovers will be enthralled with a visit to Lake Alexander Reserve. A mixture of wetlands, native prairie, meadows and white and red pines create a habitat that many birds and other wildlife flock to. Great blue herons, bald eagles, loons and osprey can all be seen while bird watching. Black bears, timber wolves, turtles and deer also frequent the park.

There are some museums definitely worth visiting during your Little Falls travel schedule that are easily reached from Little Falls hotels. The Charles A. Weyerhaeuser Memorial Museum is built along the banks and offers great views of the Mississippi. The museum highlights the story behind Morrison County where the city of Little Falls is situated.

Charles A. Weyerhaeuser was a prominent lumberman and resident of the city who had a big part in its growth and maintenance. Prairie gardens surround the museum and house a Victorian fountain and a gazebo offering terrific views. The Minnesota Military Museum is also an interesting place to visit where the lives of military women and men are highlighted. Both indoor and outdoor exhibits can be seen that tell the story of those who served in the World Wars.

The natural beauty of the Little Falls Minnesota lends to fun outdoor activities such as mountain biking. Bikes can be rented from downtown outfitters and are a great way to explore and discover the city and its surroundings. The city of Little Falls is home to three golf courses including two 18-hole courses and one 9-hole course. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon at one of the challenging courses during Little Falls travel. Bed and breakfasts such as a Nature’s Nest and the Waller House Inn are a great base for exploring the city, adding some old-time charm to your holiday.
