 Minnesota Mountain Biking

The vast and varied terrain in Minnesota offers numerous excellent choices for Minnesota biking trips. Choose from short routes for day trips or longer routes where camping is possible. When you head out on one of the bike trails Minnesota maps come in handy for familiarizing yourself with your chosen route. Make sure that you and your biking partners are well equipped with water, rain gear, compass, a bike tool and patch kit and high energy snacks if you’re planning on a Minnesota mountain biking adventure.

Minnesota bike trails include the Gunflint Trail in Grand Marais near northeast of Two Harbors. This 116-mile trail begins at the east entrance of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. It passes through scenic vistas and Glacial Lakes with an opportunity to see abundant wildlife along the way. There are many resorts and cabins in the area as well as numerous outfitters and guides to choose from. The trail ends at the Lake Superior National Forest.

The Bloomington Ferry Trail is another possibility for a Minnesota mountain biking trip. This is a great route for those looking for an easy ride as there’s little change in elevation. The single track is hard-packed and winds through thick wooded areas and lush vegetation. Along the way you’ll find a number of stick bridges allowing you to cross streams on the trail. When you reach Nine Mile Creek there’s a fun raft portage to do adding a one-of-a-kind experience to your trip. This Minnesota bike trails 12 miles in length and offers a shorter alternative to many of the longer bike trails Minnesota has.

South of Bemidji you’ll find Spider Lake Trails where Minnesota bike trails are marked by the skiing routes in the area. It’s best to take a compass and map along. The dense forest landscape reveals hidden lakes and ponds along the way great for wildlife watching. Challenging uphill climbs with magnificent descents run along on wide and single track paths in a combination of gravel road, hard-packed dirt, grass and loose rocks. Almost 8 miles of Minnesota biking trails here offer challenges for more experienced riders while beginners or intermediate riders will find the main trail more relaxed.

When visiting the Minneapolis and St Paul area some of the best metro Minnesota biking trails are found at Battle Creek National Park. The front part of the park has wider and less technical trails great for new riders. Minnesota bike trails here do rise up and down and require a moderate level of fitness. For the more exciting routes head over past the top of the hill to the woods. A fantastic hard-packed single track trail runs throughout where gut-busting descents and tough climbs over long, stretches are found for experienced riders. There are many off trail features to try out on this 10 mile loop that are hard to resist!

Other Minnesota biking trails include The Plowline Trail. Minnesota bike trails here ride along towering bluffs by the river in Winona, Minnesota south of Duluth. Breathtaking panorama of the valley make 8 miles of Minnesota biking here totally worth it! North of Rochester 20 miles of Minnesota bike trails can be found at Cannon Valley iWelch. Rock outcroppings and steep cliffs flank one side while a river flows on the other side. Witness brilliant fall colors in Autumn while riding these Minnesota bike trails.

Near most of the major bike trails Minnesota outfitters can be found. They come in handy if you’re looking to rent a bike for a few days or need some gear. You can also try one of the Cabelas retail stores for all your equipment needs. If you’re up for some fun, physical activity make sure to check out one of the many Minnesota bike trails in the state. There are so many short and long trails you should have no problem finding a suitable one nearby!
