 Minnesota Skiing

As soon as Fall starts displaying brilliant colors with promises of powder white snow to come, skiers can’t help but get excited! When you’re visiting Minnesota in the winter, take advantage of the excellent winter conditions and plan a Minnesota skiing trip. Whether you’re just staring out on the bunny hills or you’re reliving glory days from a professional skiing career you’ll find the ideal Minnesota ski area for your winter holiday.

The Minnesota ski area of Coffee Hill, northeast of Rochester in Wabasha, offers some of the best canyon skiing arranged in a bowl-style design, for excellent protection from harsh winter weather, and great accessibility to lifts. Super-long slopes combined with chairs that exhibit extremely high capacities make this Minnesota ski resort one of the best in the state.

The Chippewa run provides an excellent location for beginners to try out the sport or strengthen their abilities. The O’Chute run has an extreme pitch where the slopes are shielded from view of each other by towering pines, birch and oaks that are abundant when you ski Minnesota runs here. Other things to do in winter include ice-fishing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing and cross country skiing due to its close proximity to Lake Pepin. The small town affords quaint shopping and dining opportunities.

Excellent Minnesota skiing experiences can also be found at Lusten Mountain. This Minnesota ski resort has 85 well-groomed runs spanning four mountains near Duluth. You can ski Minnesota hills at this four-season Minnesota resort where hiking, camping, golf, snowmobiling and mountain biking are also possible. The highest vertical drop is 1,088 feet with five chair lifts taking skiers up to the longest run of 10,200 feet!

Cozy cabins are available for those who want an extended stay at this Minnesota ski resort. The lodge provides an area to warm up and relax between arduous Minnesota skiing. Enjoy a breathtaking Tramway Ride spanning across the Poplar River Valley to the apex of Moose Mountain which is open to both skiers and sightseers. Private and semi-private lessons are available at this Minnesota ski area for all levels. Ski Minnesota slopes here where the average snowfall is 9.5 feet of powder!

If you’re visiting Minneapolis during the winter months, Buck Hill outside of the city is a great place for a day of family fun. Eight lifts, twelve runs, a halfpipe, terrain park and tubing area are all located at this Minnesota ski resort. The area enjoys an average snowfall of five feet with nine lifts, three rope tows, three double chairs, one quad chair and one J-Bar. There are also a number of fun events geared toward the whole family. Competitions happen throughout the ski season as well as the Winter Fair in December and many festive events during the holidays.

When looking for opportunities to ski Minnesota slopes, some other areas to check out include Hyland Ski & Snowboard Area only five minutes from the Mall of America, Spirit Mountain near Duluth and Welch Village Ski Area, close to St Paul, which has been ranked as one of the top Minnesota skiing destinations. If you’re planning on a ski trip near the Twin Cities be sure to visit other area attractions like First Avenue for some of the most exciting nightlife in the area.
