Shakopee Minnesota is a smaller town found outside the suburbs of Minneapolis. At one time in history a Dakota Indian village flourished to the east of the current day city. The “village of the prairie” was bordered by the beautiful Minnesota River to the north and enjoyed its people plenty of natural resources. Chief Shakopee, as the tribal governor was known, lead the community until the village died out.


There is a burial ground near the Minnesota River that acts as an indication of the Indian habitation and the important tradition and heritage of the initial city occupation. Memorial Park in Shakopee Minnesota is where visitors can see the 2,000 year old burial mound. This is a great place to visit during Shakopee travel and highlights the rich history.


The Valley Fair Shakopee is home to one of the biggest and most exciting parks in the area. Valley Fair Shakopee is a one hundred-acre park featuring a wealth of curious yet thrilling rides! Murphy’s Landing is a dense, wooded area spanning eighty-eight acres and borders the Minnesota River. Tour guides decked out in 19th century pioneer costume take visitors on tours of this “living history museum.” The costumes and guides exemplify rural Minnesota life from the eighteen hundreds an offer a look into what life was like back then. Special events take place during holidays.


When looking for a good restaurant Shakopee will deliver. Serving homemade dishes and bakery treats since 1979, Emma Krumbee's Restaurant & Bakery is a great place to grab a delicious and hearty meal. Breakfast, lunch and dinner can all be enjoyed at this city favorite. For a tasty Sunday brunch another restaurant Shakopee residents and visitor’s love is Dangerfield’s.
