Two Harbors Minnesota

Two Harbors Minnesota

When the Iron Age Railroad and Duluth expanded to Lake Superior the city of Two Harbors Minnesota was born. The area’s infrastructure along the bay grew and the city is now a thriving harbor town. Friendly and smaller in size, the town boasts modern conveniences with a laid-back stride. Duluth is twenty miles northeast making day trips and sightseeing easy. The active port coupled with the scenic backdrop of Two Harbors gives this small town big appeal.

There are many things to do in Two Harbors Minnesota that rely very much on the abundance of natural beauty and rugged terrain. The most popular activity is the Superior Hiking Trail. More than 200 miles of beaten track lead away from the area, perfect for mountain biking and hiking in Two Harbors MN. An abundance of wildlife can be seen when taking the uncrowded route along steep and short climbs. Some of the beautiful natural attractions along the way include the towering Carlton Peak and the rushing waterfall on Cascade River.

Split Rock Lighthouse in Two Harbors MN is another sight not to be missed. Transportation along the route to the lighthouse promises commanding views as the historic attractions and natural curiosities reveal themselves. The Split Rock Lighthouse State Park is great for camping and hiking with more than 12 miles of trails. Note that the lighthouse is only open for touring in later spring and summer. For the avid angler fishing at Gooseberry Falls State Park, close to the lighthouse, is a must. Ideal for landing good sized trout, the area also boasts a magnificent four-tiered waterfall.

One of the major events in town is the Two Harbors Folk Festival at the Lake County Fairgrounds. The festival has been running successfully for almost two decades and has gained quite a following through it’s long history. National, regional and local performers share classic styles of dance, music, lore and art alongside the allure of Lake Superior.

Some of the things to enjoy at the Two Harbors Folk Festival include shopping for goods by local artisans, kid’s programs, music jams, camping, theme tents, dances and a variety of workshops. Admission starts around $30.00 for adults for the entire weekend. The Two Harbors Folk Festival focuses on community participation and celebration and aims to keep young and old alike entertained.

The Two Harbors golf course is named the Lakeview National Golf Course and is known for picturesque scenery and challenging greens. It’s the only course in Two Harbors Minnesota. There are a few resorts along the scenic drive that offer a variety of cabins near the Two Harbors golf course. Lakeview is an 18-hole course designed by Williams, Gill & Associates. The course features more than 6,700 yards from the longest tee with a par of 72. The slope is rated at 127 on Bluegrass and the rating is 72.2. The Two Harbors golf course green fees are very reasonable and the twilight fees are a great bargain!

If you’re planning on visiting Minneapolis, Two Harbors is roughly a two and a half hour drive. It makes for a great day trip. Stop along the way for some sightseeing. Once you’re in Two Harbors you can choose from a variety of outdoor activities to stretch out your legs and get some fresh air. Canoeing and kayaking trips can easily be arranged from outfitters near the harbor if you’d rather explore the area via the lake. Though Two Harbors seems small, it’s a nice way to break the fast-paced gait and settle in for some true, natural beauty.
