A Minnesota vacation is suitable for many different kinds of people with many varied interests. With vast wilderness areas, thriving metropolitan cities, quaint towns and rolling farmlands there are countless opportunities for every kind of holiday. Outdoor enthusiasts will love the sprawling hinterlands found in northern Minnesota. Art-lovers can soak up timeless masterpieces and cultural exhibits at the many museums and galleries in the state. A Minnesota family vacation can encompass a large variety of activities from camping to canoeing, ball games to city tours.


During a Minnesota family vacation the choices are endless. When visiting in the later spring and summer months, outdoor recreation is at its best. The many areas to enjoy outdoors includes Voyageurs National Park. This completely water-based park affords the opportunity to enjoy numerous outdoor activities. Kayaking and mountain biking are both fantastic in the area. If you take a quiet evening canoe trip an abundance of wildlife can be seen searching for food at sunset. Anglers young and old will love the endless opportunities for fishing at the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, another vast expanse of backcountry explored by thousands each year.


The fall is another great time of year for a Minnesota family vacation. With temperatures cooling off from the summer it’s the perfect time of year to explore inner-city areas in more detail. Head to Minneapolis and visit some of the many kid-friendly attractions such as the acclaimed Minnesota Zoo. Pack up the kids and head to the Metrodome for an action-packed baseball or football game. Lake Calhoun is also a very family-friendly area in Minneapolis where you can take a canoe ride, grab lunch by the lake or take a walk around the outlying area.


Fall is the best time of year for a Minnesota golf vacation. There are golf courses scattered all around the state, many of them championship facilities. There are several golf courses in the Twin Cities area as well as in Bloomington, just a short drive away. Two Harbors and Duluth are home to many stunning golf courses where fall colors will light up your game with a vibrant backdrop of colors. In Bemidji you can play a number of courses during your Minnesota golf vacation. Castle Highlands Golf Course and Greenwood Golf Course both offer 18 holes with undulating greens and many well-placed hazards. If you’re visiting St Cloud during a Minnesota golf vacation, there are nearly twenty excellent courses offering both nine and eighteen holes.


During the winter months those who love skiing will love a Minnesota vacation this time of year. There is a hoard of ski resorts and areas to test your skills at. Lutsen Ski Resort is one of the most popular ski hills along with Wild Mountain near the Twin Cities, Spirit Mountain in Duluth and Andes Tower Hill. Cross country skiers will love the abundance of trails found all over the state. The many multi use trails are utilized year-round and accommodate great hiking and cycling trips as well as great cross country ski trails.


The winter months are also great for checking out the main indoor attractions during a Minnesota vacation. The Mall of America, where the finest of Minnesota shopping can be found, is perfect for those cold weather days. Kids can hang out at the Park at Mall of America while visiting. Spend the biting cold nights grooving away to great tunes at the historic First Avenue nightclub in Minneapolis. Minnesota casinos are great adult entertainment throughout the year but are especially appreciated when it’s freezing outdoors!


It’s no wonder Minnesota is considered an annual wonderland of activity. Spring, summer, fall and winter activities offer an unsurpassed holiday experience for those who like to be active when traveling. For those who like to relax and recharge, scenic byways, quaint small towns, artisan shops and charming bed and breakfasts accommodate.
