The Missouri State Fair takes place in the middle of August and lasts for eleven fun-packed days of entertainment. The history of the Missouri State Fair dates all the way back to 1897, when a member of the Missouri Swine Breeders Association appealed to the General Assembly to enact an order to establish a state fair. The festival debuted in September of 1901 and has gone on uninterrupted ever since. The broad diversity of music represented in the Missouri State Fair concerts and the emphasis placed on high-quality agricultural exhibits and competitions make this the premiere summer event in Missouri. There are other engaging events like the Missouri State Fair Queens Competition as well as rides and plenty of games.
Tickets to Missouri State Fair
There are quite a few variations for ticket packages to the Missouri State Fair. The admission prices are set up in such a way that both one-time visitors and repeat visitors get the most value for their money. There are cheap opening day tickets, reduced prices for visitors after 5 p.m., group packages, grandstand packages, and arena ticket packages. One of the best things to do is check the schedule of events and where they will be held, whether motorsports, concerts, or exhibits, and then purchase your tickets accordingly. As with all state fairs, you will find no shortage of concessions and countless games, rides, and vendors selling all manners of souvenirs and other wares.
Directions to Missouri State Fair
The Missouri State Fairgrounds are situated just off of Highways 65 and 50 in Sedalia. The address is 2503 W. 16th Street. From the north you will want to take I-65 south until you reach the Centennial Gate on your right. Those people traveling from the east can take I-70 to I-65. Again, the Centennial Gate entrance will be on your light after passing through four lights. From the south, take I-65 north, and from the west, take I-70 east to US 65.
Lodging near Missouri State Fair
There is a range of options for people who wish to stay overnight near or in the fairgrounds. There are 60 acres of viable campground space just west of the fair with water, sewer, and electrical hookups. The fully equipped campground offers all of the facilities you will need, including showers, bathrooms, safe storage areas, and security. It is advisable to make advance reservations for your campsite as they are distributed on a first come first serve basis.
You also have the option of choosing from a good selection of hotels, motels, and bed and breakfasts within very close range of the fair in Sedalia, Missouri. These hotels include many chain brand hotels such as the Best Western State Fair Motor Inn at 32nd Street and Highway 65, and Budget Super Host at 5650 S Limit Avenue.
