Springfield

Springfield

The city of Springfield Missouri is located in the southwest corner of the state.  Springfield Missouri is the site of some Civil War battles, as well as a place for modern day Springfield travel.  Springfield is one of the cities located along Route 66, making Springfield Missouri yet another popular place to visit in the state of Missouri alongside St. Louis, Kansas City, Branson and St. Charles.

One of the reasons Springfield travel is popular is because of its reputation as the birthplace of Route 66.  Signs marking the city as the birthplace of Route 66 are one of the beloved Springfield Missouri attractions.  In addition to being a major stop along Route 66, Springfield Missouri also features a number of other interesting Springfield Missouri attractions.  The Dickerson Park Zoo is one of the more well-known Springfield Missouri attractions and a popular place for Springfield travel among families.

Another of the great Springfield Missouri attractions is the Crystal Cave.  The Fantastic Caverns, located somewhat close to the Crystal Cave is also a popular attraction.  Other Springfield Missouri attractions include General Sweeny’s Museum of Civil War History, the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, the Springfield Discovery Center, Wilson’s Creek National Civil War Battlefield and the Wonders of Wildlife exhibit.

There are also even more things to see and do in Springfield Missouri.  The Jefferson Avenue Footbridge is a bridge that stretches 562 feet and is designated specifically for pedestrians.  The bridge is more than 100 years old and crosses 13 different railroad tracks.  In addition to crossing the bridge, it is also popular to watch trains from the Jefferson Avenue Footbridge.  The Jordan Valley Park is also found nearby and is a favorite among travelers who want to see downtown Springfield, as well as one of the city’s most famous parks.

Although the city is a few hours drive from St. Louis, many travelers do plan to drive along Route 66 to visit first Springfield Missouri and then St. Louis.  Attractions in St. Louis include the Gateway Arch, Missouri Botanical Garden, the St. Louis Zoo, Busch Stadium and the Anheuser-Busch Brewery.  Nearby attractions in Branson, such as the Branson music shows and Silver Dollar City are also great places to visit.  Along the way, check out Missouri wineries, St. Louis golf courses and Six Flags Missouri.

Not only is Springfield Missouri centrally located, close to Route 66 and some of the best attractions in Missouri, but it is also a great vacation destination.  From Springfield hotels to Springfield Missouri attractions, the birthplace of Route 66 is still one of America’s favorite places to visit any time of the year.
