Nebraska Airports

As with every vacation, planning for transportation is a vital part of the preparation process. For those choosing to travel by air, there's a variety of options for flying into Nebraska, from the biggest airport—the Omaha Nebraska airport—to a collection of small regional airports. Whatever airport travelers choose, they'll have a good start to their Nebraska vacations. The list of Nebraska airports includes locations in all corners of the state.

Not surprisingly, the two biggest Nebraska airports are found in the two biggest cities: Lincoln and Omaha. Located just off Interstate 80, the Lincoln airport is serviced by several major airlines. With frequent service to hub cities of Minneapolis/Saint Paul, Chicago, and Denver, travelers can catch flights to nearly every corner of the globe. Air travelers can park their cars, go through ticketing, pass through security, and arrive at the gate in a third of the time it can take in bigger airports. And the low parking rates, abundance of car rental options, and wireless Internet access meet the needs of Lincoln travelers.

The Omaha Nebraska airport, Eppley Airfield, is the busiest airport in the state, welcoming more than 4 million passengers a year. Several national, discount, and regional airlines offer nonstop service to the biggest airports across America. Inbound and outbound passengers will find an array of services in the Omaha Nebraska airport terminal, including ATMs, laptop work stations, wireless Internet, several retail shops, two food courts, and snack bars.

Important for most travelers is transportation to and from the airport. Car rental companies and shuttle services are available at Eppley Airfield. For passengers driving on their own, there are several options for Omaha airport parking. A newly-expanded parking garage can accommodate more cars. The economy lots provide a cost-effective way to park and ride. Once they've left the parking area, Omaha visitors will have access to a lot within a short driving distance. Six Omaha hotels are located just to the south of the airfield. The Henry Doorly Zoo, one of the top zoos in the region, and the Joslyn Art Museum are both within five miles.

In Western Nebraska, passengers can catch a flight in Scottsbluff. With daily flights to and from the major hub of Denver, it's easy to get to any destination when flying through the Western Nebraska Regional Airport. A new terminal building debuted in 2005, improving the passenger experience. As with the other smaller airports in Nebraska, it's easy to navigate this site with plenty of parking and shorter lines.

Another one of the airports in Nebraska with service to and from Denver, the North Platte Regional Airport has a full schedule of departures and arrivals. Travelers can take advantage of free parking, whether its for a few hours or 30 days, keeping down the cost of the trip. Other visitor amenities include baggage handling, access to ground transportation, and a restaurant.

Just northeast of Kearney's commercial center, travelers will find another option for Nebraska airports with service to Denver. The Kearney Regional Airport, once a training ground for World War II pilots, has transitioned to a well-equipped regional airport.

Travelers also can travel in and out of airports in Nebraska that provide service to other cities. The Central Nebraska Regional Airport in Grand Island has flights to and from Kansas City and Las Vegas on two different carriers. This centrally located airport offers passengers short check-in times, free parking, and easy access to car rentals and nearby Grand Island hotels. The restaurant, along with feeding hungry travelers, hosts several special events throughout the year, including a monthly classic car show.
