Nebraska Restaurants

Excellent Nebraska restaurants are to be found all over the state, representing a fully international range of cuisines. That being said, there is one type of food that you’re more likely to find in the restaurants in Nebraska; the state’s hearty traditional fare of meat and potatoes. Corn on the cob also features heavily, as do rhubarb pie and apple pie. If this all sounds typical of the American mid-west, it is and fantastically so! Food in Nebraska comes lovingly prepared, and proves something to be genuinely savored. As such, dining in Nebraska is one of the state’s best things to do, whether you’re visiting for a day, a week, or longer.

Omaha is probably the best place to get your steak and corn as it hosts many of the top Nebraska restaurants. Aside from the traditional food, you’ll also find restaurants themed on cuisines from all over the world here; Old Market is a particular hotspot for such eating opportunities, with its range of excellent boutique eateries. One example of the superb foreign restaurants in Nebraska is the Bohemian Café, which is a local favorite offering cheap and filling Czech and other eastern European foods. Given its memorable atmosphere (the décor is authentic eastern European) and hearty fare, the Bohemian Café proves an excellent spot for food in Nebraska.

Over in Lincoln, another continental-style restaurant stands out. Yiayia’s Pizza Beer and Wine is, as the name suggests, just about everything you could want from a restaurant! The pizza comes just as it does back home in Italy (from a brick oven), and the wine likewise flows merrily. If it’s beer you’re after, then there’s an almost astonishing selection; the bartenders prove knowledgeable on each in case you’re struggling to decide. Pool tables complete the scene.

It’s not just Lincoln and Omaha that herald the best Nebraska restaurants. Many excellent eating-houses are to be found out in the Great Plains of the state, perhaps while your traveling on your way to one of the state’s more remote things to do. Car rentals probably offer the best way to facilitate such quests, as they allow you to access attractions and restaurants situated anywhere in Nebraska.

Of the annual events in the state, there are three dedicated either in part or wholly to food in Nebraska. The first, known as Taste of Omaha, comes in June, and features typical Nebraskan food by the bucketful, alongside entertainment shows and dance performances. Then, in August, the Omaha State Fair rolls around, with its heady barrage of entertainment, and food and beer tasting opportunities. The AppleJack Festival in September completes the festival calendar by celebrating Nebraska’s immense apple growing industry with a veritable feast of apple pies, apple jam, apple pancakes, and a fair lashing of cider too.

One of the great attributes of Nebraska is its fishing, which means that if you don’t fancy hunting down one of the restaurants in Nebraska, you could simply catch your own! Bass, crappie, and walleye are to be found in nearly all of the state’s fishing spots, while salmon can be caught in Lake McConaughy and in the Lewis and Clark Lake. A quick word of advice: before you go casting your rod and eating your catch, remember to read up on the state’s fishing rules so as not to fall foul of the law.
