Carson City Nevada

Carson City Nevada

Carson City Nevada is the capitol of Nevada. In 1861, the writer Mark Twain added to the notoriety of Carson City by publishing the following description:

It nestled in the edge of a great plain and was a sufficient number of miles away to look like an assemblage of mere white spots. The mountain summits overlooking it seemed lifted clear out of companionship and consciousness of earthly things.

Although Mark Twain visited Carson City Nevada almost 150 years ago in 1861, the city is still considered a town that is dominated by its spectacular setting. The town maintains the charm of its 1860s gold and silver town roots. This is a town that was made to be explored and enjoyed by foot.

When you explore the City Mint at Carson City Nevada, you can learn about Carson City dollars. The Carson City Mint was opened in 1870. It was responsible for the production of dimes, twenty cent pieces, quarters, halves, seated dollars, trade dollars, morgan dollars, five dollar gold pieces, ten dollars gold pieces, and twenty dollar gold pieces. Amongst these coins, the Carson City dollars were the most popular.

After you explore the popular Carson City dollars at the Carson City Mint, take a walk down Carson Street where you can wander through the Capitol Complex and explore the Nevada State Government buildings. At the State Library, you can view the handwritten Nevada constitution and an accompanying video, Battle Born, which explains why Abraham Lincoln was desperate for Nevada's statehood.

The Brewery Arts Center is another one of the popular city of Carson City attractions. The Center features a number of dance, musical and dramatic performances, as well as some interesting art exhibitions. The Children's Museum at the Brewery Arts Center has some fun and exciting interactive exhibits. At the Nevada State Railroad Museum, you can view a number of restored big black Baldwin steam locomotives. Some of these were once owned by Paramount Pictures, and were featured in popular films such as The Harvey Girls, The Virginian, and Maverick.

The city of Carson City also appeals to the body as well as the mind. The Carson City Hot Springs are located on the North Side of town. The outdoor swimming pool is kept at a temperature of 100 degrees. There are also 10 private indoor baths. Over the weekend, you can enjoy live music.
