When the Grand Sierra Resort first opened in 1978, it
was called the MGM Grand Hotel. At the time, the 26-story,
1,015 room hotel was considered to be the world’s largest
casino. In 1981, the Bally Corporation bought the hotel.
Then, in 1992, the Hilton Hotels Corporation entered into
a bidding war with Harvey’s Lake
Tahoe over the right to buy the resort from Bally’s.
Hilton won the bid, and the MGM Grand Hotel became the
Reno Nevada Hilton. However, it is now the Grand Sierra
Resort.
Today, the Grand Sierra Resort Reno is considered to
be one of Nevada’s most complete destination resorts.
Not only does it have the largest casino in Northern Nevada,
the Grand Sierra Resort also has the largest recreational
vehicle park in Reno. If you are looking for top quality
entertainment, look no further than the 1,750 seat theater.
The site features some of Nevada’s best concerts and stage
productions. In the summer, the Grand Sierra Resort and
Casino holds concerts in its 8,500 seat Outdoor Amphitheater.
Couples who envision wedding bells in their
future should also consider the Grand Sierra Resort and
Casino. Their special wedding packages include the use
of the Grand Sierra Resort Chapel, flowers, photography
and video.
