From the Excalibur to Mandalay Bay you can beat the heat and get there in 3-4 minutes! If, however, your trip begins at Mandalay Bay then you'll have to make a stop at the Luxor then hit the final stop at the Excalibur, totaling about a 7-minute trip. The beauty of it is it runs 24hrs a day and there's always a train every 3-7 minutes.
At the Main Station, you'll find a free pull on a slot machine with a $5,000 payoff, which usually gives out more free show tickets but it's still a chance to win something while you wait. The only one you'll find with music at the stop is at the Luxor, however, it is also the only outdoor waiting area. The rest of the waiting areas are indoors and air-conditioned. Be aware that there are no attendants at the Mandalay stop, so you may find yourself trying to rush on the next train when traffic is heavy. Keep in mind that another train will be back in 3-7 minutes, so if you're not in a rush and don't want to fight the crowd, you'll be able to get on the next one.
