The famous golf architect Tom Fazio has sculpted a legendary golf course in the middle of the Las Vegas desert. The spectacular Shadow Creek golf course was chosen 6th among "America's 100 Best Modern Courses" by Golf Week, and it was voted #1 course "in the world" in 2000 by the Robb Report. Golf Magazine named Las Vegas Shadow Creek Golf as 30th among the "Top 100 Courses in the U.S." Shadow Creek Golf is a private Nevada golf club which is often frequented by various PGA professionals, celebrities and the occasional ex-president. Guests arrive by private limousine. All players have their own professional caddie.
When the MGM Grand Hotel Las Vegas bought out Steve Wynns hotel empire, they inherited the Las Vegas Shadow Creek Golf Club. If you want to play at this unique, exclusive hotel, you must be a guest of one the MGM hotel properties. The $500 greens fee entitles you to a trip to golf paradise. Your green fees include transportation to and from your hotel to the Las Vegas Shadow Creek Golf Club.
Shadow Creek is unlike any other Nevada golf course. Unique wildlife has been imported for the course, such as Australian Wallabies, quail, exotic birds and pheasants. The pine trees along the fairways form a picture frame for the crystal clear lakes that flow through this 18-hole course. Although the scene is picturesque, stay alert! The water bodies present a formidable challenge!
Shadow Creek is the brainchild of Las Vegas hotel and casino czar Steve Wynn. He describes his 2.7 billion dollar course as "the only one I've ever signed my name to." When planning the course, Wynn placed specific emphasis on the golf course lighting. He advised Tom Fazio to make sure that most of the holes run either north to south or south to north. This makes them perpendicular to both the morning and the afternoon sun. As a result, the light creates a natural shadowing which accentuates the beauty of Fazios design.
Every detail of the Shadow Creek Golf Course has been designed with precision. Every hole has "sides," so your targets are clearly defined. Trees are scattered at varying heights, in a manner that leads your eye straight to the target. Trees surround the lakes so that golfers will not be bothered by the glare of the sunlights reflection.
Number 15 is Shadow Creek Golf Clubs signature hole. This par four hole has players hitting back into the mountain. Be aware of the creek that runs along the left side of the hole. This hole is extremely challenging in the winter time, when breezes form the northwest encourage the golf ball to do as it pleases. The fourth hole is a par five that is to the left of a wide lake. A steep, tree covered hill is to the right of the hole. The 17th hole is the most dramatic, with a massive waterfall behind the green.
The privilege of playing at the Las Vegas Shadow Creek Golf Club is an excellent reason to book a room at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas. You will be guaranteed a first class hotel and golf experience.
