Silverton Aquarium

The Silverton Aquarium at the Silverton Casino Lodge has become a major Las Vegas attraction due not only to its size, but also to the unique shows that take place there. This Las Vegas aquarium is a huge part of the entertainment at the casino, and regular shows take place every day of the week; however, to maintain interest and curiosity, in addition to the regular shows, special events take place at various times throughout the year. This unique aquarium is consistently labeled as one of the best options for a free Vegas attraction, and visiting is also one of the best things to do with kids.

Located approximately five miles off the Las Vegas Strip, on Blue Diamond Road near Industrial Drive, the Silverton Casino offers a unique and enchanting experience that charms visitors, and its main feature is the 117,000-gallon saltwater exhibition aquarium, featuring three species of shark, three species of sting ray, and 4,000 tropical fish, all joined by a pod of mermaids on select days.

Open for viewing 24 hours a day, the saltwater Silverton Aquarium offers a schedule for instructional feedings, which take place at 1:30 pm, 4:30 pm, and 7:30 pm each day. The on-staff marine biologist is responsible for feedings, and these shows are interactive, allowing guests to ask questions and learn, all the while being entertained. Visitors can also enjoy a complimentary show featuring the forever-elusive mermaids.

A mermaid show takes place at this Las Vegas aquarium every half-hour on Thursdays from 2:15 pm to 8:30 pm, Fridays and Saturdays from 2:15 pm to 9:30 pm, and on Sundays from noon to 7 pm. However, show times are not guaranteed, so visitors who are counting on a specific timing would be wise to call for updated times for this free Vegas attraction. Special shows are also featured at this Las Vegas aquarium; past performances have included a newlywed couple who were married inside the 117,000 gallon aquarium, and the renowned Criss Angel who performed an escape while immersed in the waters of the Silverton Aquarium.

While the aquarium is a huge attraction with a seemingly unending string of shows and events that take place within the aquatic habitat, the care and health of the animals within the take are considered meticulously to avoid any type of contamination or harm that may be present, so visitors can rest assured that marine life they are admiring is very well looked after.

Other attractions at the Silverton Casino Lodge include a selection of freshwater aquariums at the on-site Bass Pro Shop. The largest, an 18,000-gallon tank, showcases the magnificent Koi and a replica of the Red Rock Canyon. A flowing canyon river is also featured at the Bass Pro Shop; this is the habitat for a number of fresh water fish and other animals, including ducks and turtles.

While gambling and strolling along the Strip are often the primary draws of Las Vegas, this free Vegas attraction, though off the most well-beaten path, provides a refreshing change in the atmosphere and allure, and it’s worth adding to your itinerary if you’re looking for a more unusually entertaining vacation.
