Show Description:
Monty Python and the Holy Grail is one of the most oft-quoted cult movies in cinematic history, and the British troupe is commonly name checked as one of the most influential comedy groups of all time. True Python fans will love Spamalot Las Vegas, while the uninitiated will be charmed by the inspired, off-the-wall humor that the show is based on.
Based primarily on the Holy Grail’s premise – an oblivious King Arthur traveling with his equally inane knights in search of everlasting life with very silly results – Spamalot Las Vegas proves that their particular brand of British comedy can have a very wide appeal. Filled with non-sequiturs, sarcastic quips and catchy songs, the Monty Python Spamalot show incorporates many of the movie’s most famous scenes, not to mention a few new jokes to keep things fresh.
While the Monty Python Spamalot has been playing on Broadway (to great critical and popular acclaim) and touring about America, it will now have a very permanent home at the brand new Wynn Las Vegas theater. Twelve shows a week should be enough to satisfy fans, but that doesn’t stop the Las Vegas Spamalot from selling out every single show – often months ahead of time.
Spamalot Las Vegas was originally to enjoy a custom-built
theater. Instead, Broadway Theater, the former home of
Avenue Q, was expanded, renovated, and renamed The Grail
Theater. The Grail Theater will boast 1,500 seats, a restaurant
and an array of shops to help you spend the hours before
showtime. Always a smart man, Steve Wynn has also struck
a deal with Monty Python Spamalot such that the tour will
no longer make stops in California,
Arizona or Nevada,
making the Grail Theater the true home of the show in
the southwestern United States.
Tickets for the Las Vegas Spamalot run anywhere between $49 and $99 – and if you have ever found yourself drawn to British humor of any kind, Las Vegas Spamalot is probably the Las Vegas production for you. Witness the wit and charm of Monty Python on the Las Vegas Strip, along with some of the funniest jokes ever written concerning the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow.
Artists/Show Biography:
In 2007, the Tony-winning Broadway smash Spamalot will debut at Steve Wynn’s signature hotel, the Wynn Las Vegas. This will be the second Broadway venue hand-picked by Steve Wynn as an import for his only property worthy enough to bear the Wynn name.
The creation of Spamalot is attributed to Eric Idle, one of the original members of Monty Python’s Flying Circus, though much of the script is derived from the Monty Python and the Holy Grail movie, which was written as a collective, and featuring other famous players such as John Cleese and Michael Palin. The Las Vegas show will feature John O’Hurley (of Seinfeld and Dancing with the Stars fame) as King Arthur, and will be directed by Mike Nichols. The award-winning music was also written by Eric Idle along with John Du Prez.
