Show Description
Zarkana Las Vegas matches the signature Cirque du Soleil acrobatics with the wonder of magic. After Viva Elvis swiveled its hips for the last time, the ARIA Showroom was ready to welcome a new show — but it wasn’t ready to yield the stage to anyone but Cirque du Soleil. The Zarkana Las Vegas production features the signature style and imagination of Cirque du Soleil, but it’s light years away from the Viva Elvis. It’s a show full of magic, music and wonder — all the hallmarks of a Cirque du Soleil show.

This rock opera takes a turn for the surreal as it brings an entire magical world to the stage. It’s a world populated by strange creatures with amazing physical abilities. The experts who wrote and orchestrated the show used the surreal to create a world where physical virtuosity rubs shoulders with the strange. The main character, the namesake of Zarkana Las Vegas, is a magician without his powers. Zark’s lost his ability and the woman he loves, but he does have a theater full of strange folks — all with amazing acrobatic abilities. Along the way, he also runs into the Mutants, a group of fire sirens whose plans are to keep away from his quest to return to his true love. Will he find love? That’s a question to be answered by those who see one of the hottest Las Vegas shows. Because this is a Cirque du Soleil show, the story unfolds with plenty of great music and amazing acrobatic feats. The show is as stylish as the ARIA suites a quick walk away from the elegant theater that provides a home to Zarkana Las Vegas.

The ARIA is the first place in Las Vegas to host Zarkana and his band of misfits. The show is playing to great crowds at Radio City Music Hall in New York City and has played in London and Madrid before coming to the Las Vegas Strip. Like Mystere and other top Cirque du Soleil shows, Zarkana was created by Francois Girad, who also serves as director and writer. The Quebecois legend brings his love of music to the stage, with skills and style few directors bring. After his first career as creator of art videos in Montreal, Girad gained attention and fans as he directed one of the first TV adaptations of dazzling Cirque shows. Now 30 years later, he’s a legend in the theater world, which is evident during every song and every twirl and swirl in Zarkana Las Vegas.
The ARIA Showroom is dark on Wednesday and Thursday, and Cirque du Soleil’s ARIA show plays twice nightly with shows at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. the rest of the week. Doors open 45 minutes ahead of time for the 90-minute show. Tickets are available for the Gold Circle Seats right at center stage. To turn a show into a vacation, it makes sense to book overnight packages at the ARIA Resort, home to a large casino and well-stocked buffet, all next door to the Bellagio and its famous fountains.
