The cabaret-inspired Zumanity Las Vegas is all abut atmosphere. From the cushioned walls to the dim haze that greets you as you wind up the ornate staircase to the balcony (unless you sprung for additional $10-$30 for orchestra seats, you big spender you), it's clear that this will be a show unlike any other Las Vegas show. And even though it is located in the heart of the New York New York casino, the Las Vegas Zumanity Theater might be the closest anything in the city comes to replicating a true European setting. Resembling the opera houses that are strewn across Western Europe, the subtle sensuality in the architecture only serves to heighten that portrayed in the show.

And Zumanity Las Vegas is no-holds barred when it comes to sexual exploration. Though it is all displayed through great feats of strength and acrobatics, the show leaves little to the imagination. Whether it is a wife trying to seduce her husband away from the television, fleeting homoeroticism, or a young girl experimenting with bondage for the first time, a Las Vegas Zumanity show surveys many sides of desire and lust, and the animalistic costumes that "cover" many of the show's performers implicitly state that the normal boundaries for a Cirque du Soleil show have been tossed out the window.
In true cabaret style, these is no narrative to back these acts, they are just a series of unrelated vignettes that just happen to add up to a thrilling show when viewed as a whole. Gestalt theories notwithstanding, Las Vegas Zumanity would be worth a visit for any one of the acts, much less the entire 90 minute performance. Another of the show's highlights is before the curtain even goes up, where actors and dancers mingle with incoming audience members. While staying in character, this introduction gives you a glimpse of what is to come, along with offering an up close and personal look at the exquisite and revealing costumes.
Zumanity shows Wednesday through Sunday, twice daily, at 7:30 and 10:30 pm, as long as you are over the age of 18.
If the people at Cirque du Soleil ever get tired of winning awards, they'll never let on. With so many shows in Vegas, from the brand new Beatles LOVE to the legendary KA Las Vegas, it sometimes feels like the troupe has a monopoly on the city. But buy a ticket to any one of the shows will eventually prove the group's popularity, and the most critically acclaimed show might just be Zumanity. An international cast headlines while emcee Joey Arias keeps the show rolling - a gifted talent, his jokes and clever introductions give the proceedings what little structure there is during Zumanity.
The third show on Cirque du Soleil's resume, it is the only one that features adult themes, and has been playing at the New York New York Hotel, since August, 2003.
