The Wildcat Mountain Ski Area is widely considered to be the most picturesque of all the resorts in New Hampshire. You could make the argument that it is one of the most scenic resorts in New England. Ski Magazine did when they claimed that the Wildcat Mountain Ski Resort features the best scenery in North America. The resort is located on Route 16 between the towns of Gorham and Jackson, right by Mt. Washington, which is the highest peak in the entire Northeast. Snowboarding and skiing at Wildcat Mountain are certainly the two most popular pastimes, but it must be said that this is the perfect place for all kinds of vacations year round. The activities and excitement continue on throughout the year regardless of the season.
The top elevation at the Wildcat Mountain Ski Area is nearly 4,100 feet with a vertical rise of over 2,100 feet. You’ll be able to make it to the apex of the mountain in six minutes thanks to the fastest quad lift in all of New England. Because of the base elevation of 2,000 feet and the close proximity to Mt. Washington, this part of the state gets upwards of 200 inches of snow every year. This enhances the overall experience at the Wildcat Mountain Ski Resort and keeps skiers and snowboarders of all stripes coming back time and again. There are 47 trails on 225 acres including groomed trails, bumps, steeps, glades, and backcountry tree skiing. A total of 25 percent of the runs are for the beginners, 45 percent for intermediates, and 30 percent for experts. Polecat Trail is the longest ski run at the Wildcat Mountain Ski Area and the state of New Hampshire at 2.75 miles. The Wildcat Valley trail features a 3,240-foot vertical advanced, cross-country trail from the summit of Wildcat to Jackson Village.
There are no slope-side accommodations for you while skiing at Wildcat Mountain, but this is largely a moot point because of the fact that there are so many area lodging options from which to choose. The Wildcat Mountain Ski Resort has been in business for over 50 years and has partnered with many area accommodations to offer packages for people who are planning to ski and stay. You will have the option of choosing from condos and townhouses, inns and lodges, hotels and motels, and bed and breakfasts. There is truly no shortage of accommodations in and around Wildcat Mountain. The Inn at Ellis River, the Glen Oaks Inn, the Village House, and the Mount Washington B&B are just a few of the fine area accommodations.
Although skiing at Wildcat Mountain is the end all be all for most folks, the fun goes on into the warm seasons. Zip-lining, disc golf, hiking, fishing, and mountain biking, are literally just a few of the activities that are available throughout summer and fall.
