Cape May New Jersey

Cape May New Jersey

To say that Cape May New Jersey has a lot of charm may be the understatement of the century. In fact, this charming ocean side community at the southern tip of the Jersey Shore has the classic Victorian beachside feel that many coastal communities try to capture. Cape May New Jersey is a great place to go if you enjoy a laid back beach scene, Victorian architecture, seafood, or historic train rides. Cape May residents often refer to their home as the United States’ original beach destination. The town’s official slogan is “The Nation’s Oldest Seashore Resort” and a visit to Cape May New Jersey confirms why people from Philadelphia have been flocking here for centuries.

Visitors from Delaware will want to take the convenient Cape May Ferry from Lewes, Delaware to Cape May New Jersey, a famous mainstay of New Jersey transportation. This nice mini-cruise crosses Delaware Bay a few times daily for both commuters and tourists alike. A good way to feel the Atlantic breeze in your hair, the Cape May Ferry is less expensive if you leave your car behind, and shuttles are available to aid such passengers at their destination. The Cape May Ferry also has indoor space if that Atlantic breeze is a bit too stiff due to the coastal storms that can visit the area. Make sure you arrive at the terminal a half hour before you want to catch the popular Cape May Ferry, or you just might miss the boat.

In between enjoying the things to do in Cape May New Jersey, check out the dining establishments that have left some patrons calling Cape May the “Restaurant Capitol of New Jersey.” Decide for yourself if Cape May restaurants live up to this distinction by taking a tour of popular Cape May restaurants. Whatever you decide, you won’t go away hungry. Let’s start with breakfast at the Mad Batter Restaurant, an eatery credited with starting the renaissance of Cape May restaurants. If you’re looking for plain old ham and eggs, look elsewhere, because the Mad Batter will astound you with creative breakfasts, often including delicious crabmeat. Don’t forget: they serve great lunches and dinners as well, at a mid-range price. For an inexpensive hand-crafted pizza lunch, try out Stumpo’s Italian Grill, a tradition in Cape May. The old-world family recipes are top secret, but it’s no secret that this is a great family place for Italian lunches or dinners.

If relaxing on Sunset Beach is growing tiresome, and you’ve already climbed the Cape May lighthouse, take a popular day trip on the Cape May Seashore Lines. The Cape May Seashore Lines is a tourist railroad company that captures an old-time train trip on the Jersey Shore. Two trips are offered: a thirty mile roundtrip ride from Richland to Tuckahoe, and a 22 mile roundtrip ride from the Cape May Courthouse to Cape May City. A great service to enjoy on a rainy day when the beaches are no fun, the Cape May Seashore Lines provide a nice way to take in the area, as well as an available on-board lunch service. Another rainy day activity is a visit to Cape May winery for a tour and a taste, one of many excellent New Jersey wineries.

Whatever you decide to do among the charming Victorian buildings or gleaming sands of Cape May New Jersey, this place will continue to be known as a pearl of New Jersey beaches.
