The Georgia O'Keeffe Museum Santa Fe is one of many wonderful museums that helps to make its home city a dream destination for art enthusiasts. The permanent collection at this fine institution includes more than 1,000 works by O'Keeffe herself, and among these works figure watercolors, clays, charcoals, sketches, pastels, and photographs. O'Keeffe had a liberal and avant garde personality, and the subjects of her works include nudes. There are also cityscapes that recall her years in Chicago and New York City, and a plentiful amount of landscapes tend to pay homage to her adopted state of New Mexico. Iconic flower pieces, such as Jimson Weed, are among the many highlights, and pieces like Blue II reflect O'Keeffe's early experimentation with the abstract realm. In the early 1900s, Georgia O'Keeffe was one of only a few American artists that was exploring the abstract movement.

On a visit to the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe, visitors can watch a film that offers insight into the artist's life. Part of the film relates to the attachment that O'Keeffe felt to New Mexico. Originally born in Wisconsin in 1887, the artist first passed through New Mexico in 1929, and while this first visit was a relatively short one, it made a big impact. O'Keeffe returned time and again to New Mexico over the years, and in 1949, she finally decided to move there. You will likely come to understand her love of the state if you decide to treat yourself to a visit. Suffice it to say that there is a reason why New Mexico's nickname is the Land of Enchantment.

The Georgia O'Keeffe Museum is found in the heart of Santa Fe at 217 Johnson Street. It is open daily from June to October and closes on Tuesdays between the months of November and May.
