New Mexico has been an emerging hotspot for golf with designers gunning to create new courses on undeveloped land near and on reservation land. Keep in mind that there is an abundance and range of courses when planning your New Mexico golf vacation. Many of the most popular golf courses in New Mexico are found in and around Albuquerque but there are many public and private courses scattered all over the state. Whether your planning your New Mexico golf vacation as a package tour or simply planning on touring around and playing several different courses New Mexico is a great location for the sport because of its temperate climate, stunning scenic backdrops and ample choice for the golf enthusiast.


A New Mexico golf vacation can be the perfect way to unwind and get away from the everyday. Whether the getaway is strictly for pleasure or for practice for an upcoming tournament New Mexico golf offers some of the best courses in the southwest to play. New Mexico golf is at its peak during the summer months as the winter season sometimes brings on some snowy conditions. Summers tend to be in the upper 80's. Autumn is also a nice season for New Mexico golf but can be a little more unpredictable with some days being quite warm and others cooler so make sure to pack accordingly. Albuquerque tends to remain the best city to fly into and packs a punch when it comes to New Mexico golf courses per city.


Called “the Monster” by avid local golfers The Championship Golf Course at the University of New Mexico has been ranked among the Top 25 public golf courses in the nation by Golf Digest magazine. This New Mexico golf courses features are 3-hole beginner course, a driving range, an 18 hole course and has hosted numerous important tournaments including LPGA and PGA qualifying events.


When considering New Mexico golf courses one of the most prestigious courses available to play is Black Mesa Golf Club located in La Mesilla just north of Santa Fe. This course was designed by architect Baxter Spann(who has over 25 years of course design behind him) and has a distinct Irish feel to it. When arriving on the green for the first time noticeable is the vast and impressive expanse of land and the absence of any man-made interruptions. The course features holes which are both noteworthy and consequential. The course is defined by brilliant sandstone ridges, distinct bunkering and a stunning natural design assigning it as one of the golf courses in New Mexico definitely worth playing. Some other notable golf courses in New Mexico are Twin Warriors Golf Course in Bernalillo, Sandia Golf course in Albuquerque and Taos Country Club in Taos.


Golf courses in New Mexico are starting to pop up with fervor as more designers and architects are working on existing courses or are working on blueprints for new ones. With over 97 golf courses in New Mexico to choose from there is definitely a course for every player from beginner to champion. The cities with the highest number of golf courses in New Mexico in order include Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Las Cruces, Farmington, Roswell and Ruidoso.
