Camping in the Thousand Islands

Camping in the Thousand Islands region is something that many regional visitors have in mind when it comes to accommodations. Part of the reason for this is the fact that there are numerous campsites to choose from on both the U.S. and Canadian sides. Some of the best sites are found at parks such as Long Point State Park, and there are plenty of camping options for tent campers and RV enthusiasts alike.

Long Point State Park enjoys a wonderful location on a peninsula that faces Chaumont Bay. The recreational opportunities include fishing, picnicking, and boating. As for the campsites, there are more than 80, and some feature electrical hookups. Another park that campers might consider moving to the top of their Thousand Islands camping lists is Cedar Point State Park. Found to the near southwest of Clayton, New York, this waterfront park offers more than 178 campsites, and visitors can also take advantage of such things as boat rentals, a beach, picnic spots, and an overlook that often affords views of freighters passing by.

Travelers who are looking to do some camping in the Thousand Islands region certainly don’t have to limit themselves to the sites that can be found at state parks. There are plenty of other options to consider. An example are the sites at the Merry Knoll Campground. Also found near Clayton, this campground features a variety of tempting amenities. These amenities include a sundeck, a swimming pool, a camp store, a fishing pier, laundry facilities, and a game room. The Merry Knoll can accommodate RVs of virtually every size, and it also offers tent sites and camping cabins.

This is just a small sample of places to camp within the Thousand Islands region, and anyone who is wondering about the options on the Canadian side should be happy to know that there are some good ones. Examples include the Maples RV Park in Cornwall, the Rideau River Provincial Park in Kemptville, and the 1000 Islands Kingston KOA in Kingston.
