New York Discount Hotels

Finding discount hotels in New York City can be done with a little searching. While most of New York City’s hotels are quite pricy, you can find cheap New York hotel rates by searching for deals online, by choosing accommodations that are lacking in amenities, or by simply finding one of the cheaper chain establishments. While Midtown hotels are generally the most highly priced, you can find a few good New York discount hotels scattered throughout the area, but you are often better off looking Downtown or on the Upper West Side if you want to save money and still stay in Manhattan. As you move to the boroughs outside of Manhattan, like Queens and Brooklyn, you will find an array of New York discount hotels that often come in the form of the budget chain brands. Cheap New York hotel rates can often be found on the weekends, especially in the city’s financial district where the weekday business travelers become more scarce come Saturday and Sunday. The following recommendations for discount hotels in New York City compliment the selections offered in the Cheap New York Hotels article.

The Belleclaire Hotel New York is a great choice for budget-minded travelers looking for discount hotels in New York City and is located at 250 W. 77th Street in the heart of the Upper West Side. The Belleclaire offers 3 different room options, with the cheapest being the economy rooms with shared bathrooms. Housed in a landmark building, this historic and elegant budget-hotel will have you double-checking the low prices. And, you will find it hard to beat the location. Midtown is an easy walk away, as is Central Park and while the hotel lacks a restaurant, you will find plenty of dining establishments all around you. Each of the hotel’s well-decorated and good-sized rooms feature air-conditioning, cable/satellite television, a refrigerator, a telephone and internet access. Between exploring all there is within your reach here, you can fit in a nice workout if you please at the hotel’s well-equipped fitness center. And, the hotel’s impressive lobby will be a welcome sight every time you arrive. While not the cheapest of discount hotels in New York City, its style is hard to beat among other budget hotels.

While the Belleclaire Hotel is a good choice for New York discount hotels on the Upper West Side, you can find lower rates at the nearby West Side Inn. Found at 237 W. 107th Street, the West Side Inn is more a hostel than it is a hotel, which means the amenities are few here. That being said, you can’t beat the location for the price and as long as you know going in that this is a budget option you should not be dissatisfied. There are 75 rooms here spread over 6 floors, and while they are not large, they are clean and comfortable and well-decorated. Each room features satellite cable television, internet access, a hairdryer and an iron and ironing board. There is around the clock reception service here, and while you will not find a restaurant on the premises, you will find no shortage of dining options once you step outside. The West Side Inn offers limited room service and it features a modest lounge. There are also basic kitchens on each floor. Nearby attractions include Central Park, the Guggenheim Museum and the Broadway theatres.

One of the discount hotels in New York City that is almost sure to please is Hotel 17. Located downtown at 225 E. 17th Street, this hotel is near East Village, Gramercy Park and Greenwich Village. The single room option with a shared bathroom offers the cheapest rates, but for a bit more you can opt for a double or triple room and shared bath if you are more than one. About the only drawback to this chic selection among New York discount hotels is that you share bathrooms. Other than that, this place is a gem. The Woody Allen film, “Manhattan Murder Mystery”, was filmed here and among past celebrity guests is Madonna. CNN attributed Hotel 17 as, “Defining The New York State of Mind”, and while the amenities are somewhat limited, the rooms are decorated in style, and recent renovations have added some extra touches. In-room amenities do include a television, a hair dryer, an iron and ironing board, complimentary toiletries and an in-room sink and mirror.

As stated before, the budget chain hotels are often a good place to look for cheap New York hotel rates and among the selections you’ll find is the La Quinta family of hotels. La Quinta offers a nice Beaux Arts style option in Manhattan, but if you are looking to save even more, you can opt for the chain’s Queens/Long Island City option found at 3718 Queens Boulevard. While you are a bit outside of Manhattan when staying here, it’s but a short drive or train ride into the big city, so you are never far from Times Square, the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Station and all the other delights of Manhattan. Five floors, 100 rooms and 7 suites make up most of the layout of this newer property and the hotel also boasts an onsite business center and a nice fitness room. All the guest rooms are elegant and well-furnished and the extra amenities will surely have you thinking you found a great deal. Room amenities include premium cable television, free high-speed internet access, a coffee maker, a refrigerator (some rooms), a hair dryer, ironing tools and dataport telephones. A complimentary continental breakfast is included in the low price and while there is no onsite restaurant, there are plenty of dining options nearby and you can enjoy shopping at the Queens Mall or just across the East River in Manhattan.
