Show Description:
The Lion King Musical follows the story of ‘Simba’ a young lion cub exploring the world he is growing up into following the tragic premature death of the King, also his father. The story revolves around the ‘circle of life’ and the many relationships and issues that confront a young adolescent, who having been banished from his kingdom, finally returns to inherit his throne and rightful place as King from his conspiring family member ‘Scar’.
The on-stage magic is provided by intricate and expressive masks, puppets and costumes making a particularly magical experience. The real magnificence in The Lion King Musical is the reliance on the audience’s imagination and to make the ‘animals’ come alive. Coupled with an amazing soundtrack and set, the production is truly expressive. The masks depicting each character do not attempt to hide the actors. The animal characters therefore take on a very human dynamic. With such amazing production, you feel that the Lion King backstage magic is not necessarily compromised. In fact, it allows you to enjoy some impressive puppetry.
The puppetry is truly exceptional with some of the larger puppets reaching up to almost five feet tall. Complementing the larger on-stage characters is the shadow puppetry performed by highly skilled puppeteers who operate all of these fantastic designs with the highest artistic integrity. With such a humanistic approach to the animals and the dramatic emotions expressed throughout various scenes, the lighting and sets play an important part in conveying these moments. In particular it is the scene in which ‘Simba’s father ‘Mufasa’ is killed in a wildebeest stampede whilst trying to save his son. Great set designs give the perspective of depth to the audience with the effect of hundreds of rampaging wildebeest heading directly toward ‘Simba’ and the audience.

Artists/Show Biography:
The Lion King on Broadway stage production follows a hugely
successful Disney animated film. The Lion King Musical

in recreating such a masterful film on-stage. It offers
a fantastic soundtrack under the guidance of Grammy Award

Women, Aladdin) who is currently president of Walt Disney
Music. Further music credentials are provided by one of
the biggest selling solo artists of all time, Sir Elton

produced much of the Academy Award winning music for The
Lion King film with songs ‘Can You Feel the Love
Tonight’ and ‘Circle of Life’ which
