From a walk to the top of the Statue
of Liberty to finding the perfect slice of pizza,
your New York day trip can include just about anything
you like. Here you’ll find information about
some of the most popular New York day trips as well as
day trips from New York City
to some of the surrounding areas.
Manhattan
The idea of a New York day trip spent stalking the streets
of downtown New York may sound intimidating at first,
but you really can see a number of New York’s most
famous icons in one day. Start by checking out the
Statue of Liberty. You can either take a tour of
the statue itself, or hop on board one of the cruise ships
which will take passengers past the statue, Ellis Island,
and various parts of Manhattan. From here, you can
take the subway over to the Empire State building.
Many travelers, particularly those with limited time,
choose to buy their tickets in advance. The Empire
State building offers great views of the city below,
and of course a gift shop awaits tourists hoping to take
home an Empire State Building souvenir. A few streets
over by subway, you’ll find the Museum
of Modern Art, Rockefeller
Center, sections of Central
Park, and Times Square.
Spend the afternoon and evening exploring these great
attractions, and of course take time to sample some local
pizza.
Central Park Area
A New York day trip spent exploring Central park and
some of the famous museums that surround it can be an
excellent experience. On various sides of Central
Park, travelers will find the Metropolitan
Museum of Art, the Guggenheim
Museum, the Cathedral of St. John the Divine and the
American Museum of Natural History. Although the
Met alone could easily fill a day, you can split your
time between these great attractions and take it all in.
There are also multiple cafes and restaurants in the area
offering good options for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Day Trips from New York City
If you have the time, there are also some great day
trips from New York City into the surrounding areas.
A trip to Long Beach is one of the more popular.
Longbeach features a boardwalk that stretches for about
two and a half miles, as well as an indoor pool, a fishing
pier, and sometimes even free summer concerts. Near
the park there are a myriad of places to eat and small
shops to peruse. If the weather is nice, Long Beach
is one of the most perfect New York Day Trips. Another
of the most popular New York day trips is a trek to the
historic Yankee
Stadium. If you are in New York during the baseball
season, spend the day in the Bronx seeing a game at Yankee
Stadium and checking out the neighborhood. Tickets
are generally easy to get, and even the cheap seats offer
an unforgettable New York experience. For another
kind of fun, your day trip to New York itinerary can actually
include a short drive to the Six
Flags Great Adventure theme park in nearby New
Jersey. All day passes to Six Flags can be purchased
in person at the Six Flags ticket booth.
