New York City Events

No matter what time of year you decide to take your New York vacation, you'll be greeted with a variety of free events in NYC. From outdoor festivals in Central Park to New York City special events at Madison Square Garden, you won't run out of things to do in New York City.

If you're a fan of classical music, head to the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in late July and early August for the annual Mostly Mozart Festival, one of the most popular NYC events. The festival features renowned classical conductors and musicians showing off their talents in performances throughout the month. The festival also offers classical music lectures and recitals.

Although the Big Apple can be pricey, there are many free events in NYC. Central Park SummerStage takes place every year from mid-June to mid-July at the Rumsey Playfield in Central Park. Hundreds of people fill Central Park every day to experience a variety of opera, theatre, and dance performances. Most of the NYC events at Central Park SummerStage are free, while others are fund raising events that suggest a donation. The New York City special events at Central Park raise millions of dollars each year for causes such as breast cancer and muscular dystrophy.

Some of the most popular New York City events take place during the winter. Perhaps the most famous of free events in NYC is the New Year's ball dropping event at Times Square. Each year, people from all over the world gather at Times Square to bring in the new year. Even if you don't get a chance to watch the ball dropping event, it is worth a visit to Times Square to experience the frenzy of flashing displays, enormous billboards, and touristy stores.

Even though the weather in New York can be quite chilly in November, this doesn't stop people from attending the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade. The parade dates back to the 1920s, when the majority of Macy's employees were new immigrants. The parade was one of many NYC events that celebrated American culture and life. The parade has grown through the years to become one of the largest free events in New York City. Adults and children alike will enjoy the spectacular balloons and elaborately adorned floats.

New York City events are a great way to experience the vibrant atmosphere of this city. Even if your New York vacation plans call for a tight budget, there are many free New York City special events to experience throughout the city.
