Show Description:
From Disney comes the Little Mermaid Musical based on the hit 1989 animated film. It is a classic fairytale story that follows Ariel, a young mermaid who longs to escape her ocean home and live among the humans that inhabit the world above her. Fascinated by this alternative world, her attempts to explore get her into deep trouble with keeper of the undersea kingdom King Triton. Angered and upset by the limitation imposed on her not to have any contact with the humans, Ariel ignores what she has been told and heads off to search for the curious human beings. Here, she saves the life of a Prince who falls overboard from his ship. Ariel falls in love for the man and runs away from her homeland with the help of Ursula, a witch. Ursula was banned from the underwater kingdom for her use of black magic. However, plotting to take revenge on King Triton, Ursula turns Ariel into human form in exchange for her soul. As the prince searches for the woman who saved his life and Ariel searches for the kiss of true love, Prince Eric and Ariel’s paths inevitably cross. Within 3 days if Ariel doesn’t receive the kiss she will lose her soul to the witch and her human form which she so desperately desires. As the 3 days draw to an end, Eric and Ariel’s worlds collide as the witch comes closer to achieving her aim, becoming Queen of the Sea.

Little Mermaid on Broadway contains many of the memorable songs that featured so prominently in the Disney animated film. The show features Academy Award winning song ‘Under the Sea’ courtesy of Alan Menken and Howard Ashman. The Disney on Broadway production also features new material with Glenn Slater providing lyrics. Other songs ‘Part of Your World’ and ‘Kiss the Girl’ also feature in the production.

Artists/Show Biography:
The story of The Little Mermaid was first published in 1836 by Danish poet and author Hans Christian Andersen. The premise of the story has been adapted many times into musical and film formats. Most notably was the Disney hit film from 1989. Such was the success of the film; Disney was credited with re-establishing the genre of animated films. Little Mermaid on Broadway opened in New York in late 2007 is brought to the stage by director Francesca Zambello, choreographed by Stephen Mear and with costumes by Tatiana Noginova. Tony Award winning Natasha Katz provides creative lighting.
