Colorful and imaginative, Mary Poppins follows the story
of a nanny employed by a wealthy Edwardian-era English
family. The story follows her role in looking after the
Banks families out of control children Jane and Michael.
Such is the remarkable character of Marry Poppins that
magic and adventure soon follow as rewards for the children’s
good behavior. Mary Poppins the musical takes you through
the streets and rooftops of an Edwardian-era industrial
London while centering
on the problems of the Banks family. The story has an
underlining message regarding family values and is brought
out through the dynamic adventures of the children and
their ‘perfect’ nanny. These adventures are
essentially brought to life through the introduction of
a number of colorful characters. Bert, a cheery working
class chimney sweep is perhaps the most prominent and
rescues the children from their exploration of the working
class slums of East London.
Mary Poppins Broadway showcases some fantastic songs
and choreography all the while sounding like a cockney
Londoner ought to. Most well known is the song ‘Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’.
Such is the varied and impressive choreography throughout
the show that the production won a 2005 Tony Award for
their efforts. Scenes of dancing chimney sweeps set against
the backdrop of a London skyline have won the show a number
of awards and accolades. Reflected in the set designs
and costumes Mary Poppins the musical is very much a tribute
to the Edwardian-era London that the story is set. The
show takes the audience through wealthy suburban neighborhoods
and upper class recreational pursuits to the darker depths
of a working class industrial city.
The production is no doubt a classic Broadway musical
and is definitely one for the family. Younger audiences
will enjoy the variety and up tempo cheerful music and

Artists/Show Biography:
Tony Award winning, Marry Poppins is a classic stage production
from the Walt Disney Company. Originally opened in Broadway
in 2006 Mary Poppins the musical continues to enthrall
audiences. Part of a series of children’s books,
the first Mary Poppins book was published by Pamela L
Travers in 1934 and was made into a successful Disney
film in 1964. Cameron Mackintosh takes the helm as producer
and co-creator of the production after having been producing
a number of high quality musicals for the past 35 years.
The popular show was awarded 2005’s Olivier Award
for Best Theatre Choreography.
