New York City Luxury Hotels

New York City luxury hotels are in good supply and include some of the best and most famous upscale lodging establishments that you will find anywhere in the country. Some are known for their historic allure, others are more modern and trendy. And, while this is a city where bigger is often seen as being better, not all of the best luxury hotels are large, sprawling complexes where you might get lost trying to find your room. New York City is a place where you can have it your way, so if a more intimate luxury hotel is what you seek, a more intimate luxury hotel you can have.

Several New York City luxury hotels are well known the world over. A good example would be The Carlyle, a Rosewood Hotel. Found on the Upper East Side just a block from Central Park, The Carlyle was built back in 1930 and has been a preferred NYC lodging for world leaders, celebrities, and other travelers who can afford its white-gloved service and sumptuous rooms. Other famous New York City hotels that are an excellent lodging fit for discerning travelers are The Peninsula New York, The Roosevelt Hotel (pictured), and The Plaza. The Peninsula is often ranked among the greatest hotels in the world by industry experts and delightfully blends old-world elegance with 21st-century technology. The Roosevelt first opened its doors in 1924 and is heralded as the “Grand Dame of Madison Avenue.” As for The Plaza, it was one of the first Big Apple luxury hotels to put itself on the international map. You might even say that the landmark Plaza is synonymous with New York City itself.

Finding a 5 star hotel in New York City certainly isn’t difficult. Choosing one might be, however, as there are so many good choices, especially in and around the Central Park and Fifth Avenue area of Midtown. Take the Ritz-Carlton New York (pictured), for example, which gives places like The Peninsula and The Plaza a run for their money with its well-outfitted rooms and its enticing location across from Central Park. Other good bets in the New York City 5 star hotel category include The Mercer, The Mark, The Pierre, the Four Seasons Hotel New York, and the Mandarin Oriental New York. If something smaller and more intimate is what you have in mind instead, you might consider the Inn New York City. This hotel occupies a restored 19th century townhouse and hails itself as “the ultimate in romance and exclusivity.”

In New York City, space is at a premium. As such, many hotels lack at least a little bit in the facilities department. Among the facilities that are commonly missing at the city’s hotels are swimming pools. That’s not to say that there aren’t New York City hotels with pools. Quite the contrary. The 4 and 5 star NYC hotels are the best places to start if a swimming pool is a facility that you just can’t do without. Among the best luxury hotel pools in NYC are the seventh-floor, outdoor pool at the Trump SoHo and the 36th-floor, indoor pool at the Mandarin Oriental (pictured). Other upper echelon recommendations for New York City hotel pools include the rooftop pools at The James Hotel and at the Hotel Gansevoort Park Avenue.

Your standard luxury hotel tends to not only offer rooms, but suites as well. Plenty of New York City luxury hotels fall into this category, and in addition to being extra spacious, their suites can be pretty ornate, practically pushing the luxury lodging notion to its limits. Book a Penthouse Suite at the Trump SoHo, for example, and your 1,800 to 2,020-square-foot retreat will feature such delights as a deep soaking tub, signature bath amenities, a fully stocked mini bar, and fine Italian linens. Over at the St. Regis New York (pictured), the “full suites”, which include the Presidential suite, offer fine custom residential furnishings and have accommodated the likes of heads of states and celebrities. At these and the other New York City luxury hotels, the most exclusive suites are complemented by an assortment of other suites that, while not quite as spacious or overly ornate on some occasions, are certainly enticing enough by most people’s standards. Other, more affordable hotels around the city also offer suites should added room be a major focus of your NYC hotel search.
