Show Description:
The hugely successful blockbuster, Phantom of the Opera follows the story of Christine, a beautiful young singer, who becomes charmed by a mysterious phantom who haunts a Paris Opera House and teaches her to sing. The story begins with hauntingly unexplained incidents occurring throughout a performance of an opera. It is brought to a head when a backdrop to the stage comes crashing down and narrowly misses the prima donna female lead, Carlotta. Scared and refusing to continue the show, a replacement is sought and Christine is thrown into the limelight to produce a triumphant performance. Present in the audience for Christine’s success is Raoul, a childhood friend. A relationship sparks and soon the two are engaged. From the Phantoms lair in the catacombs of the Opera House to the rooftops above, the plot continues, as both Raoul and the Phantom compete for Christine’s attention and ultimately, her love. Feeling jealous and betrayed, the story ends as the phantom presents a choice to Christine. Stay with the Phantom forever or he will kill her love, Raoul.

Coupled with such fantastic emotive on-stage drama and an array of talented creators, Phantom of the Opera Musical has proved a runaway success with countless audiences. Set around an Opera the show inevitably displays grand costumes and theatrical stage pieces befitting such an arena. With Andrew Lloyd Webber at the forefront, audiences can expect the resulting music to be rich and technically competent while in tune with the dramatic scenes on stage. Like most of the productions, the detail makes the orchestra and stage design so aesthetically pleasing. Each performance sees 230 individual costumes expertly complemented by grand set pieces. 2,230 meters of specially dyed fabric make elaborate set piece drapes. The stage boasts a particularly impressive replica of the Paris Opera House complete with a dazzling chandelier that oozes opulence and dwarfs the actors. Phantom of the Opera tickets start at about $100 and can go over $300, depending on your seats.

Artists/Show Biography:
Based on the novel by French writer Gaston Leroux and creatively brought to the stage by composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, Phantom of the Opera is the longest running show in Broadway history. The production is directed by Harold Prince and Produced by Cameron Mackintosh (Marry Poppins). In addition to the Phantom of the Opera Broadway show, productions have a solid standing in London’s West End, Las Vegas, Australia, Budapest and Osaka. In all, the production has entertained people in over 25 countries worldwide. Over 52 million people are estimated to have seen the show and it is reported to be the highest financial grossing theatre production on Broadway ever. As early as a 1925 silent film production, the classic horror saw a number of remakes on the silver screen. Most recently in 2004, Phantom of the Opera was once again made into film, directed by Joe Schumacher and produced once again by the hugely talented Andrew Lloyd Webber.
