Show Description: After three blockbuster animated films, almost everyone has at least heard of Shrek. But before the films came a well-received children's book in 1990 by William Steig. Now bringing this beloved story into yet another medium, Shrek the Musical is bound to take Broadway by storm. After a stint in Seattle to start off, the Shrek Musical on Broadway opens to the public in November 2008, but Shrek musical tickets are on sale ahead of time.
For all the fans of the movie out there, Shrek the Musical will not deviate too far from the characters and story of the first movie. Shrek the ogre journeys forth from his solitary existence to seek out Lord Farquaad and find out why fairytale creatures are invading the solitude of his swamp. Along the way, he rescues Princess Fiona from the tower, while the dastardly Lord Farquaad tries to take the princess as his own. Shrek, Princess Fiona, Donkey, and Lord Farquaad reprise their roles in the musical, and as an added bonus, all characters are played in ways that closely match their performances on the movie screen. Meaning, you will not have to stare at a poorly-disguised Donkey, forced to imagine what he looked like in the movie. The Shrek Musical on Broadway plans to whisk viewers straight back into the Shrek universe with an amazing array of special effects rarely or never before seen on stage before. For instance, the actor who plays Lord Farquaad is over six feet, but on stage he will appear just over four.
Another bonus to Shrek the Musical is the depth of the show. Given that the movies are under an hour and a half, a two-hour-long Broadway show can explore more behind the characters. While children will enjoy the performance based on the popular kid's series, this fact alone ensures there is something for the adults as well. The show also features new songs and more of them than in the movies.
Like many Broadway show tickets, Shrek musical tickets are likely to sell quickly due to the popularity of the show. Prices for Shrek musical tickets vary depending on both seating preference as well as the evening you go—Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays are more expensive. There are no shows on Mondays.
