Things to Do in the Bronx

Things to do in the Bronx range through a variety of interests, from historical sites to modern and lively places to go. Some of the most iconic attractions and monuments in New York can be found in this borough, and including some of the Bronx attractions on the itinerary is essential for a well-rounded New York City vacation.

Yankee Stadium

Opened in 1923, the original Yankee Stadium was home for decades to one of the most talked-about baseball teams, the New York Yankees, nicknamed the Bronx Bombers. The original venue was replaced by a new stadium in 2009, which stands adjacent to the where the first park was located. The old stadium has been demolished and will remain a park facility known as Heritage Field. The new stadium and the Memorial Park are open to the public for tours outside of game hours. Attending a baseball game is one of the best ways to spend a summer afternoon, so be sure to look at the game schedule if you’re looking for fun things to do in the Bronx.

Bronx Zoo

Offering more than just a chance to look at wild animals and their habitats, the Bronx Zoo provides guests with a host of things to do in the Bronx, including camel rides, a monorail, the Congo gorilla forest, and a 4-D theater, and while each of these do require an additional admission fee beyond the main zoo ticket, they let visitors create a personalized day trip at this Bronx attraction. A membership fee is also offered with access to five New York zoos and attractions as well as a number of other benefits, such as access to the zoo attractions.

New York Botanical Garden

One of the most pleasant year round Bronx attractions is the botanical garden, featuring 50 gardens and plant collections, from a conservatory with a variety of climates to a children’s adventure garden to a secluded forest. A general admission fee is charged for access to the entire collection, and for those guests who plan to visit the New York Botanical Garden several times, a membership may be the best choice when planning for admission costs. This is one of the most peaceful and relaxing things to do in the Bronx, and visiting makes a nice break from the bustle of the Big Apple.

Orchard Beach

Known as the Riviera of New York, Orchard Beach is an artificial beach created on the Long Island Sound in the 1930s. Here, visitors will find a diverse selection of fun things to do in the Bronx, including a promenade, a wide selection of shops, picnic areas, playgrounds, and sports facilities. Thousands of people are drawn to this man-made Bronx attraction throughout the year for various reasons, from sunbathing to engaging in sports and other activities.

City Island

A small community located off the mainland, City Island’s history begins with the early settlement of Europeans in the area during the 1600s. The settlers were mainly of Dutch origins, though there were settlers such as Thomas Pell, an Englishman who purchased land on the island from the native Siwanoy; his descendents owned the island until the mid-1700s. Today, City Island maintains its small town culture while still hosting flocks of visitors for the coveted nightlife on Fridays and Saturdays as well as the variety of historical attractions, such as the Walsh room, the Nautical room, the School room, and the Community room, each offering a look at life and artifacts from former days.

Along with a host of other fun things to do in the Bronx, these attractions offer guests a chance to learn about the history, culture, and lifestyle of the area, as well as enjoy the beauty and charm of the Bronx attractions. Stepping into the delightful aspects of the bustling city, Bronx tourism allows visitors to engage in a diverse assortment of activities for a vacation filled with plenty of attractions and entertainment.
