Things to do in New York

It's hard to narrow down a list for attractions in New York, but the following will get you off to a great start on the endless supply of New York tourist attractions. Not surprisingly, most are in and around New York City.

Niagara Falls: This stunning set of waterfalls on the Niagara River that spans both the United States and Canada is a classic destination for visitors to New York State, and a one of the most popular attractions in New York. Maid of the Mist boat tours are available year-round, and are a great way to experience the falls.

Ellis Island and Statue of Liberty: Tour this National Historic Monument and learn all about so much of what our country was, and still is, all about. Take a ranger-led tour of the Immigration Museum and The Statue of Liberty, and enjoy one of most oft-visited New York tourist attractions.

Empire State Building: The second-tallest skyscraper in The United States, this impressive Art Deco-style building is a classic among New York City attractions. Take a high-speed elevator to the 86th Floor observation deck and take in an unparalleled view of the Manhattan skyline and snap a few Chrysler building pictures and shots of other local landmarks.

Times Square: Alive, nearly frantic, with activity and commerce, this Manhattan neighborhood is known for its gaudy television-style and animated neon signs. This is best experienced after sunset, when visitors can enjoy the vibrant nightlife of this favorite among attractions in New York.

Rockefeller Center / Radio City Music Hall: This bustling center of activity that is home to some of New York City's most prominent businesses attractions in New York, including the famous Radio City Music Hall and the Top of the Rock Observatory.

Central Park: Visit this oasis set amidst bustling Manhattan. Stop by Central Park Zoo, take a horse-drawn carriage ride, or simply relax on the expansive park lawn. A great place to relax after visiting other New York tourist attractions.

Museum Mile: This stretch of Fifth Avenue along the eastern edge of Central Park includes, among others, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Guggenheim Museum, and The Jewish Museum. Museum Mile makes for a rich cultural experience, and remains a top destination among New York City attractions.

Broadway: This world-famous theater district on and adjacent to Broadway Avenue is the home of endless New York shows and showcases some of entertainment's brightest stars. One of the most popular New York tourist attractions.

World Trade Center Site: Visit the yet to be developed and memorialized site of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and experience first-hand what has now become known as Ground Zero. A solemn stop to be sure, but, among New York City attractions, one not to miss.

Coney Island: Grab a famous Coney Island Hot Dog and hit the beach, amusement rides, and New York City's only aquarium for a day of family fun! Coney Island is a resort, and, though a bit out of the way, is a worthwhile trip and one of the classic attractions in New York.
