When to Go

Travel to New York is a 365-day-a-year occurrence. Its inhabitants make a point of celebrating their state and city, both steeped in history and culture, no matter what the season, and pave the way for anytime travel to New York. The New York State transportation system, with its numerous international airports, model bus, train and subway service, and rental car availability, make anytime New York vacations user-friendly travel experience.

New York events are a non-stop affair. Sports games in New York City can be found at Madison Square Garden and Yankee Stadium, and can keep the avid sports fan and vacationer busy at any time of year. Many New York City cultural attractions, such as its museums and entertainment venues, are open most days of the year, accommodating both the in-season and off-season city guest.

When planning travel to New York, keep in mind that New York summers---both upstate and in-city---can be hot and humid, and its winters quite cold with plenty of reliable snow. That said, New York events are so plentiful throughout the year, and so popular, that any savvy vacationer can find lots to do during the “off season”.

Niagara Falls is a splendid upstate New York destination, and tours are offered year-round. Summer will bring larger crowds, and fall and winter bring with them chillier months, but less people.

One of the most popular upstate New York events is the annual New York State Fair in Syracuse. Taking place in late August-early September, the fair showcases New York State’s finest in agriculture, animal husbandry, and arts/crafts.

Christmas is a popular time for many New York vacations, especially New York City. During this magical time of year, the city becomes alive with holiday excitement and there are many opportunities to celebrate the season in style and tradition. Rockefeller Center is a widely-visited holiday destination, with its giant Christmas tree and ice skating, and Radio City Music Hall’s famous Christmas Spectacular and Rockettes holiday shows. Many New York vacations taken at this time of year are geared specifically toward the famous shopping to be had along New York City’s Fifth Avenue! The annual New Year's Eve Ball Drop in Times Square is among the most exciting of New York events, and is attended by thousands.
