Show Description:
Wicked the Musical follows the previously untold story of the witches of Oz. Based on the novel The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, the show explores the notion that the so called ‘Wicked Witch’ may not have always been so evil. Differing from the original premise of Oz, the show captures the early years of two characters, Elphaba and her friend Glinda. One is girl is born with emerald green skin, the other is a beautiful and popular girl. These two characters through a journey of contradictory experiences develop into two very different witches. One will become the Wicked Witch of the West, the other, the Good Witch of the North. The plot explores their faltering friendship and alternative personalities and is mostly set prior to Dorothy’s arrival from Kansas and the accepted tale we already know.

The popularity of Wicked on Broadway has resulted in the show spawning productions as far as Chicago, Los Angeles, London, Tokyo, Melbourne and Stuttgart. A North American tour also saw the production reach many other cities. Wicked the Musical has broken many box office records both on Broadway and globally. Ticket prices can start from $51 to over $150, depending on your seat. Despite being such a popular production, as always Cheap Wicked Tickets can be found. The show is recommended for children 8 years old and over.

Artists/Show Biography:
Author L. Frank Baum, in collaboration with picture artist William W Denslow, first published the Wonderful Wizard of Oz in 1900. Proving an instant success with younger readers, as early as 1903 Wizard of Oz opened on Broadway. After the success of the novels, traveling theatre companies adopted the story and toured the show as a production. Sequels to the original book soon followed with The Marvelous Land of Oz in 1904. Between 1907 and 1920, a multitude of other Oz novels and short stories hit print. By 1914, Baum had released his first Oz film under the Oz Film Company. Another adaptation of the Wizard of Oz in 1939 resulted in a critically acclaimed Oscar winning movie musical. From then on, various re-incarnations of the popular film and stage show were created. The current stage production of Wicked the Musical is based on Gregory Maguire’s novel, The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. Directed by Joe Mantello and music arranged by Stephen Schwartz, to date a number of the shows protagonists have won Tony and a Grammy Awards as well as nominations in a field of categories.
