Found more or less in the middle of North Carolina’s coast is the friendly town of Atlantic Beach. Ripe for vacationers looking for a great beach experience, Atlantic Beach has a clean sandy stretch where swimming is just one of the popular activities. The Bogue Banks, where Atlantic Beach is located, is part of what is referred to as North Carolina’s Crystal Coast, and there is simply no shortage of fun things to do here. The Bogue Banks is a 25 mile long barrier island boasting a nice array of beach communities, of which Atlantic Beach is surely among the most popular.
There are a few primary public access points for those
looking to get to Atlantic Beach NC. One of these
access points is more of a paid parking lot found at the
Sheraton Atlantic Beach Oceanfront Hotel, which is certainly
a nice lodging choice for those who haven’t secured
one of the Atlantic Beach rentals. The other two
public access points offer 50 and 64 parking spaces respectively,
some of which are free, and both feature picnic tables,
outside beach showers, and bathrooms. The beach
at Atlantic Beach NC is wide and clean, and like some
of other great North Carolina beaches, this east-to-west
running beach is great for watching both sunrises and
sunsets. Atlantic Beach North Carolina is a pretty
complete vacation destination, offering plenty in the
way of restaurants, night clubs, bars, family attractions,
and more. Fishing can be enjoyed here either off
a pier or on a chartered fishing
excursion, and for those who are interested in Civil War
history, history tours at Ft.
Macon State Park are not to be passed over.
Highway 70, which runs southeast towards Morehead City and Atlantic Beach, is the best way to get here by car. If you are coming to the area by plane, the airport at Raleigh is just a 3 hour drive away, and there are also commercial airports at the closer North Carolina cities of Jacksonville, New Bern, and Kinston. The summer season is the high season for Atlantic Beach tourism, and you’ll find that during this time many of the Atlantic Beach rentals will require a minimum stay of at least a few days. If you cannot make arrangements at one of the Atlantic Beach rentals, which include cottages, homes, and condos, there are some good hotels in the area, though you’ll still want to book in advance during the summer. Should you be interested, other beaches in the Crystal Coast area worth checking out during your Atlantic Beach NC vacation are Emerald Isle and Pine Knoll Shores.
