Lenoir NC, lying about 75 miles northwest of Charlotte, is set amidst the Blue Ridge foothills. The city was named after a renowned general in the Revolutionary War, Gen. William Lenoir, whose home, Fort Defiance, lies just north of current day Lenoir. Today, the estate is a restored historical tourist attraction. Hibriten Mountain, which is located within in the city limits, is the tail end of the Brushy Mountains, a division of the Blue Ridge Mountain Range.

Outdoor Recreation

Lying in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Lenoir presents ample opportunity to engage in any number of outdoor recreational activities. Walking and hiking trails stretch out over Caldwell County for all types of adventurers, from the experienced outdoorsman to the novice ambler. Waterfall trails are among the most enchanting of all designated paths; some of the preferred trails include Harper Creek Falls, Hunt-Fish Falls, Waterfall on Thorpes Creek, and Falls on Gragg Prong, all ranging through the spectrum of easy walks to advanced hikes. Trout and bass run through the waterways of Lenoir, making this a popular destination for many fishing enthusiasts. Wilson Creek and Catawba River offer some of the most accessible areas; the Yadkin River and John’s River are also frequented fishing holes in the region. Additionally, from April through October, local events keep Lenoir buzzing with activity every weekend all summer long.
