Raleigh Hotels

With a host of excellent attractions and a great location close to Charlotte, the city of Raleigh is a popular place for a vacation. As the state capitol city and one of the most historic towns in North Carolina, Raleigh hotels offer both the historical and the unique to travelers from out of town. The famous North Carolina Museum of Art is also located in downtown Raleigh. Hotels in Raleigh closer to the airport will tend to be less expensive than those in the heart of downtown, but some of the most historic Raleigh hotels will be downtown. A few of the most popular and historic hotels in Raleigh are discussed below.

Sheraton Capital Center

As the name suggests, this Raleigh hotel is located close to the state capital building. As one of the few hotels in North Carolina which can boast this amenity, the hotel is surprisingly affordable, with rooms starting in the $100 range for a double, although there are some pricier suites which go for $500 per night. The Sheraton in Raleigh is a major skyscraper, and has become a prominent part of the Raleigh skyline since its construction in 1982. This is one of the nicest and largest hotels in North Carolina.

Raleigh Marriott Crabtree

This is not only one of the most affordable Raleigh hotels, but it is also one of the largest hotels in Raleigh, with more than 200 guest rooms ranging in price from $80 - $200 for a double room, and from $300 - $600 for a suite. The Marriott Crabtree is located about halfway between the Raleigh airport and the downtown area (10 minutes from each), and as such is a popular choice for business travelers who might be arriving by plane. This Raleigh hotel offers complimentary shuttle service and features one indoor pool as well as one outdoor pool.

The Oakwood Inn

The Oakwood Inn is easily one of the nicest hotels in North Carolina, particularly among the class of travelers who adore staying at real inns. The idea for this hotel is character as well as a sense of cozy hominess, due in large part to its Victorian era structure, which was built in 1871 as a private home. This is one of the best hotels in Raleigh found in the city’s historic district, and is walking distance from some of the most precious antebellum architecture in the area. Small details in décor continue to make the Oakwood Inn one of the most popular Raleigh hotels for history lovers and travelers with time to do some exploring. Prices range from about $100 to $200 per night, and the cost includes a full breakfast for hotel guests.

Travelers looking for hotel packages or other types of hotels will do well to check with the Raleigh visitor's bureau, talk to a travel agent, or try searching through an online travel company. Due the close proximity of some other great North Carolina cities, including Durham, Greensboro and Winston Salem, Raleigh is a great place to start when planning a longer trip through the state.
