Sunset Beach

Sunset Beach
Atlantic Beach | Bald Head Island | Carolina Beach | Emerald Isle | Hatteras Island | Holden Beach | Nags Head | Ocean Isle Beach | Sunset Beach | Wrightsville Beach

Sunset Beach, which claims to have the “most beautiful three miles of coastline in North Carolina”, is just one of the great North Carolina beaches that you might consider for your upcoming vacation.  Found just off the mainland, Sunset Beach is the smallest of the South Brunswick Islands, which are located just near the South Carolina border.  The town of Sunset Beach is proud of its quiet charm, and the preservation of its tranquility is something that residents take seriously.  The three miles of picturesque beaches here are what first draw the bulk of visitors in, and for good reason.  But, Sunset Beach NC vacations offer more than just great beaches.  There’s plenty to get into here, and it’s always nice to enjoy a drink at a Sunset Beach bar as day gives way to night.

The picturesque scenery in and around Sunset Beach is part of its overall charm, with Carolina Pine and Oak trees lending to the strong mid-Atlantic setting.  The beach at Sunset Beach is clean and wide, with pristine sand dunes providing refuge for native wildlife, such as Wood Storks and Loggerhead Sea Turtles.  Sunsets, as well as sunrises, can be enjoyed on the beach, as it runs east to west.  Though the relatively secluded, snow-white beach at Sunset Beach is surely alluring enough, those enjoying Sunset Beach NC vacations might find the beach at nearby Bird Island to be even more delectable.  You can walk or bike to the Bird Island State Preserve from Sunset Beach, it’s that close.  Sunset Beach and undeveloped Bird Island, are pretty laid back destinations, so should you get a taste for some night life, you can always head to nearby Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.  As mentioned, you might belly up to a Sunset Beach bar come evenings, and the nearby North Carolina mainland offers up its own fair share of nighttime hangouts.  Should you stay at a Sunset Beach resort, you can enjoy the clubs and/or bars there, but as far as the overall nightlife scene in Sunset Beach Town goes, it’s fairly quiet.  This is more of a family vacation destination, though by no means should couples, individuals, and groups of friends overlook it.

As mentioned, the nearby North Carolina mainland is worth exploring for those enjoying a Sunset Beach NC vacation, and the Sunset Beach area offers up some nice restaurants to choose from.  Just a few miles away is the village of Calabash, which is known as the “Seafood Capital of the World”, so seafood lovers will certainly enjoy dining there.  If driving, you can get to Sunset Beach by crossing a pontoon bridge, which is the last one of its kind on the entire United States East Coast.  Those flying in can look for flights to both Wilmington NC and Myrtle Beach SC.  As far as accommodations go in Sunset Beach, you can stay at a Sunset Beach resort or a Sunset Beach hotel, and there are also various vacation rentals available as well.  Suffice it to say, there are plenty of Sunset Beach hotel and lodging options to fit a range of budgets and needs.
