In the summer hikers on the Appalachian Trail pass through the beautiful mountains of western North Carolina. Their path takes them around Wolf Laurel NC and the empty slopes of Wolf Laurel Ski Resort. In the winter these slopes are covered with natural and manmade snow and visitors from across the southeast come to Wolf Laurel Ski Resort.

Wolf Laurel Ski Resort (also know as “The Wolf” or Wolf Ridge Ski Area) is one of the newest ski stations in North Carolina. Each year Wolf Laurel Resort seems to add another lift, more trails, or expansions to its base area. Wolf Laurel Ski Resort now has over 80 skiable acres and six lifts, including a new high-speed quad. Another lift and several trails are in the planning stages.

The twenty or so slopes at Wolf Laurel Resort are mostly suitable for novice or intermediate skiers and snowboarders; the three black-rated runs are short and not extreme. The average skier will be more than satisfied with the terrain at Wolf Laurel North Carolina. Snowboarders will be especially impressed by the unconventional grooming methods at Wolf Laurel NC. The snow is left in rolling waves, giving it a more natural feel and creating multiple kickers and ruts perfect for practicing tricks.

The main quad lift at Wolf Mountain Resort takes riders to the top of its 4,700-foot summit. From there, blue intermediate trails run practically the entire 700-foot vertical drop to the base area. Favorite blue runs include Viewfinder to Powder Hill and the Howling to Timber Wolf.

Beginners who feel intimidated by Timber Wolf (most should find it manageable if they take it easy) can unload midway on the double lift from the base and go down the green-rated Broadway run. For more secluded green runs at Wolf Laurel NC take a right off Viewfinder and ski down to the new quad lift. A magic carpet and surface lift near the base area service gentle introductory areas, perfect for first-time skiers and snowboarders.

Wolf Laurel North Carolina is close to Asheville NC and Knoxville TN, so many locals will be able to make a visit to Wolf Laurel Ski Resort a daytrip. For those who live further away, Wolf Laurel Resort offers many affordable condos nestled in the mountains with amazing views of the surrounding mountains and easy access to the slopes. Wolf Laurel Resort also borders an 18-hole golf course, and pool area, making Wolf Laurel North Carolina a good place to visit year-round.
