When visiting Cleveland
be sure to head to the Great Lakes Science Center Cleveland
for a day of entertainment and many things to do where
the main focus is Ohio Great Lakes. There are many exhibits
and spellbinding Omnimax films for everyone to enjoy including
the Hurricane on the Bayou. This film exhibit depicts
the environmental catastrophe and incredible effects of
Hurricane Katrina, one of the most cataclysmic disasters
in the history of the United States.
The Amazon film exhibit allows visitors to go on a journey
to the jungles of the Amazon and explore the amazing Amazon
River. Great Lakes Science Center visitors can delve
into the largest tropical rain forest in the world, highlighted
by fish, plant life and exotic animals. Animals featured
include pink dolphins, piranhas and jaguars.
Another exciting film exhibit offered at the Great Lakes Science Center is the Coral Reef. The Corel Reef features a journey of exploration to the South Pacific and what life among the coral reefs is like. This film examines some of the most diverse, intriguing and magical landscapes in the world. Other fantastic film events, which are a highlight of the Great Lakes Science Center Cleveland include Living Seas, Dolphins and Dinos Alive.
There are over 400 exhibits to discover at the Great Lakes Science Center Cleveland that are hands-on and educational. On the Science Phenomena Floor the favorite is the Indoor Tornado where visitors can see a simulated tornado and even stick their hands inside. On the Regional Technologies Floor you can pilot a blimp, lift a crushed car off the ground and experience fun demonstrations by the Great Lakes Science Center Cleveland staff.
The Great Lakes Environment Floor offer visitors a chance
to learn about the Great Lakes Science Center Cleveland
history which puts emphasis on Ohio Great Lakes. Exhibits
offer information about threats to the area, the unique
ecosystem of Ohio Great Lakes as well as additional information
about the geography, geology and physical attributes of
the area. The Science Center’s main dedication is
concerning the Great Lakes and protecting them and the
environment around them is their primary goal. Cutting
down on transportation fuels is focussed on. Great Lakes
Ohio fishing is also threatened
by water pollution in the area.
Hours of operation for the Science Center are daily from 9:30am to 5:30pm. The center is closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. When to go depends but normally the earlier the better or visit in late afternoon when crowds start dispersing. Omnimax films on their own are $9.50 for adults, $8.50 for seniors, and ages 3-17 get in for $7.50. The Great Lakes exhibits are the same prices and there is a combination price for those wishing to do both which is offered at a savings.
The Science Center is located between Brown’s
Stadium and the Rock
and Roll Hall of Fame. It is an great place to go
with the family and provides educational information in
a fun and innovative way. It’s not only for kids
either! The films playing at the Omnimax are incredible
and visually stunning and a great way to pass an afternoon
or morning. If wanting a special souvenir the Science
Center store offers books, puzzles, games and more to
take home with you and actually use, not just put on a
shelf!
