Grand Lake Oklahoma

As anyone who has traveled around Oklahoma State will testify, the area is blessed with some wonderful lakes. One of the most prominent of these is the Grand Lake Oklahoma—also known officially as the Grand Lake O' the Cherokees. To be found in the northeastern corner of Oklahoma at the foothills of the impressive Ozark Mountains, the lake boasts of 46,500 acres of surface water, and a jaw-dropping 1,300 miles of shoreline. With its incredible scenery and tranquil nature, the Grand Lake Oklahoma has unsurprisingly become a mainstay on both the tourist and retirement circles.
A manmade lake, the Grand Lake Oklahoma symbolizes an incredible architectural feat. In a manner of speaking, it is the child of the Pensacola Dam, which sits on the Grand River. The longest arch dam in the world, the Pensacola Dam was completed in 1940 after a staggering Depression-era effort of poorly remunerated manual labor. Its completion gave birth to the Grand Lake, and consequently supplied the neighboring Cherokee Nation with a major source of hydro-powered electricity.
Today, the Grand Lake Oklahoma fishing is a particularly popular attraction—indeed, the lake is frequently voted one of the best bass fishing sites in the entire country. Those who come to enjoy the Grand Lake Oklahoma fishing experience won't be left wanting by the facilities on offer; boats are easily rented from a variety of places, while there's also a well-stocked and professional fishing store on the lake should you need bait and tackle paraphernalia. All in all, though, it's not the facilities that make Grand Lake Oklahoma fishing as good as it is, rather, it's the quiet nature of the place, and the plentiful supply of large fish in the water. This is the great outdoors as it should be!
Visitors looking to spend more than a day on the Grand Lake Oklahoma won't struggle to find a place to bed down for the night. There is a great selection of resorts at Grand Lake Oklahoma, each offering the chance to really get to know the area. Lee's Grand Lake Resort is an ever-popular family run RV campground that offers air-conditioned lakefront cabins complete with WiFi and cable TV. There's also a pool area here, a volleyball court, a picnic area, and an onsite mini-mart, ensuring all your needs will be accommodated. Another one of the popular resorts at Grand Lake Oklahoma is The Peninsula Resort and Club (formally the Shangri-La Resort). Fishermen, meanwhile, may want to consider the Bedford Cabins. One of the smaller resorts at Grand Lake Oklahoma, the Bedford Cabins market themselves as having been designed specifically with the fisherman in mind, but like other cabin rentals around the state, others may enjoy this type of lodging as well.
