Portland Rose Festival

Portland Rose Festival patrons will have plenty of fun experiences to choose from. This long-running festival that first took place in 1907 is actually a collection of events totalling more than 60. Late May through mid-June is when the majority of the events take place, and as you might imagine, it can be relatively hard to find a hotel room during this peak festival season. The various Portland Rose Festival events cater to all kinds of visitors, and since there are so many of them, there's bound to be at least one that fits your wants and needs.

The Portland Rose Festival Parade, or Grand Floral Parade as it is officially known, is the centerpiece of Portland's beloved Rose Festival. This parade is one of the largest all-floral parades in the country and attracts around half a million people every year. On a Saturday in mid-June, the colorful Portland Rose Festival Parade makes its way from the Memorial Coliseum to the heart of the downtown area, and those who line the streets are treated to dazzling floats, impressive equestrian displays, energetic marching bands, and so much more. The Portland Rose Festival Parade route is just over four miles long, and should you be interested, Memorial Coliseum seating can be reserved in advance. Those who purchase reserved seating at the Memorial Coliseum will get to watch the coronation of the parade's queen, which takes place between 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m.

The Portland Rose Festival events are eclectic to say the least. In late April, MusicFest showcases young musicians and bands who are trying to break onto the scene, and it doesn't cost anything to enjoy. Other event highlights include a golf tournament, an amateur road-racing event, and a fun-filled boat race that sees more than 100 teams competing in intricate dragon boats that are provided by a local association. There's also the Waterfront Village events and a family-friendly night parade that is known as the Starlight Parade.

The Portland Rose Festival golf tournament is a four-person, best-ball scramble that benefits the Portland Rose Festival Foundation, while the road-racing event has been giving amateur racers an opportunity to enjoy some speedy fun at the Portland International Raceway. As for the Waterfront Village events, they are held at Tom McCall Waterfront Park over the course of a few weeks. Food, fun rides, and all around family entertainment are at the heart of the Waterfront Village experience.
