Portland Oregon Tourism

Portland Oregon tourism revolves around many different things, and when it comes down to it, there really isn't a bad time to visit. In general, summer is the best time to go to Portland, as this is when the weather is at its best. Northwest weather in general can be unpredictable, but is generally mild and temperate. That being said, those who want to go skiing might stick to the winter months. Interestingly enough, skiing can be enjoyed year round at one of the nearby resorts, so you might enjoy a spring, fall, or even summer ski vacation.

When making your Portland travel plans, weather is likely to be one of the main things that you will consider. The state of Oregon in general has variable weather, and often times, the skies are gray and the air is cool. The temperatures are mild throughout the year in general, thanks to the moist air that blows in from the nearby coast, but it can get very cold during the winter and hot during the summer. In fact, temperatures in the 100s aren't entirely unheard of during the summer months. Suffice it to say that the Portland climate is a temperate one. The winters are mild and damp, while the summers are usually warm and relatively dry. Dry is not the best word to describe Portland on most occasions, as the city gets more than its fair share of rain. Bringing along rain gear and dressing in layers is recommended regardless of the time of year.

The best time to go to Portland has a lot to do with what you want to do while in town. When visiting the nearby Willamette Valley wineries, the summer months are most ideal. Most of the wineries close in January and February and are only open on the weekends in the spring and fall seasons. The Portland area isn't only known for its wine. This is a prime beer-producing region, and if you're a beer enthusiast, you'll be happy to know that the breweries are open all year long.

Many people's Portland travel plans revolve around a specific festival or event, as there are many good ones to choose from. For baseball fans, showing up in the late spring, the summer, or the early fall is recommended when trying to catch a game at PGE Park, while the late fall, winter, and early spring are when the Trailblazers are playing their home games at the Rose Garden Arena. Some of the best events that are worth keeping in mind are the renowned Rose Festival, Waterfront Blues Festival, and Portland Brewfest. These are just some of the festivals and events that help to keep Portland Oregon tourism healthy.

For budget travelers, the best time to go to Portland is arguably between the months of October and May. This is when most of the city's hotels drop their rates, and it's also easier to get deals on flights, rental cars, and other things that might be related to your vacation needs. This is also a good time to avoid the crowds, with the summer holiday weekends being especially busy Portland travel times. Should you be planning on visiting during one of the summer holiday weekends, such as the Fourth of July, then you'll want to reserve a hotel room or a vacation rental well in advance when possible, as they can fill up fast.

The best time to go to Portland is any time truth be told. The city's excellent museums and growing dining scene cater to residents and tourists alike on a year-round basis, as do the many wonderful shops. For nightlife enthusiasts, the bars and clubs are also open throughout the year, and big name performing artists are known to drop by the concert venues with regularity regardless of the season. Portland travel has something for every season, as there's pretty much always something going on in Oregon's largest city.
