Liberty Mountain provides both residents of the Gettysburg area and visitors alike with a fine place to take to the slopes in the winter season for some Pennsylvania skiing. At the Liberty Mountain Resort, sixteen trails await, and these trails are divided almost equally between expert runs, intermediate runs, and beginner runs. The total vertical drop is 620 feet, which is good by Midwest standards, while the longest run stretches out to almost a mile long. A collection of facilities only add to the attraction of a Liberty Mountain ski or snowboard escape, as do the lodging options. The Liberty Mountain Resort recently acquired the Carroll Valley Resort, which has only doubled the amount of hotel rooms near the slopes.
Liberty Mountain Pennsylvania opens its slopes in December, weather permitting, and most seasons see the lifts running until mid-March. The resort gets about 30 inches of natural snow on an average annual basis, and it can make enough snow to cover all of its trails as needed. Also worth noting is the fact that the Liberty Mountain Resort has a lighting system that allows for night skiing seven days a week during. You can't go night skiing at most of the higher elevation resorts that can be found in states such as Vermont, Colorado, and Utah.
The Liberty Mountain Ski Area covers 100 acres. Approximately ten of these acres are part of the three different terrain parks. At the terrain parks, you will find boxes, rails, and jumps of all sizes. A certain amount of care should be exercised in the terrain parks, and helmets are available for rent if you want to be extra safe. In addition to renting a helmet, it is also possible to rent skis or a snowboard at Liberty Mountain, and should you need some skiing or snowboarding tips, it is possible to book lessons. The lessons even include terrain park lessons.
The Liberty Mountain Resort is owned by the same company that operates the Whitetail Ski Resort and Ski Roundtop. Both of these other resorts are also found in Pennsylvania. At all three of these ski areas, a great array of facilities complement the well-groomed slopes. At Liberty Mountain, these facilities include a few lodges with food service, a sports shop, and a snow tubing area. A pair of high-speed quad chairlifts help to get skiers and snowboarders up to the top of the mountains in short order, and when a break from the slopes is in order, you can always hit the arcade at the Boulder Ridge Tubing Lodge.
As for the Liberty Mountain Ski Area lodging options, the Liberty Hotel offers 40 slopeside rooms and a more spacious luxury suite that often goes fast. Free parking, free continental breakfasts, and free Wi-Fi help to make the Liberty Hotel a popular place to stay. Some good ski and stay packages are available for the Liberty Mountain Resort, and if you are interested in visiting during the warmer seasons, you can consider booking a golf and stay package or a package that includes Gettysburg tours.
