Although many travelers may not necessarily associate the state of Pennsylvania with golf, there are actually a number of great Pennsylvania golf courses found throughout the state, and even some nice options near the bustling metropolis of Philadelphia. Golf in Pennsylvania includes both high end country clubs and less formal Pennsylvania golf courses for golfers of every level. Golfing enthusiasts can even find decent deals on golf packages in Pennsylvania at golfing resorts in the state. Information about some of the most popular Pennsylvania golf courses can be found below.

Cobbs Creek

This is one of the five city-operated Pennsylvania golf courses near Philadelphia, and one of the favorites for local golfers. Designed by the famous golfer Hugh Wilson, Cobbs Creek is found less than 25 minutes from downtown Philadelphia. This Pennsylvania golf course is 18 holes and green fees are between $15 and $25 during the week and between $20 and $30 on the weekend. The least expensive green fees can be obtained by golfing early in the morning on the weekdays. This is also a good time to avoid golfing crowds.

Pittsburgh Field Course

Located in the city of Pittsburgh, this is also a favorite Pennsylvania golf site. Golf in Pennsylvania at the Pittsburgh Field Course will cost around $50 per person. This is an 18 hole, 71 par course which stretches for more than 6,000 yards. The course is located on Field Club Road at the Pittsburgh Field Club, and is about 10 miles from downtown Pittsburgh.

Fox Chapel Golf Course

Also located in Pittsburgh is the Fox Chapel Golf Course. This is another of the most popular Pennsylvania golf courses near Pittsburgh, in large part because it is located just 10 miles from downtown Pittsburgh. This is an 18 hole course with a par of 71. Green fees are between $45 and $60 per person.

Hershey Fairways

In addition to the many traditional courses for golf in Pennsylvania there are also a number of options for golf packages in Pennsylvania. Hershey Fairways, near Hershey Park, is a popular choice since families can come here to enjoy a plethora of activities. Most golf packages in Pennsylvania in and around Hershey include up to 9 rounds of golf at various courses in the area, which can include the Iron Valley Golf Course, Foxchase Golf Club, Dauphin Highlands, Wren Dale Golf Club, Manada Golf Club Lebanon, Valley Golf Club, Monroe Valley Golf Club, Royal Oaks Golf Club, and the Blue Ridge Country Club. Each of these courses is located near Hershey Park. Packages will also include a hotel stay and green fees for golf courses.

Gettysburg Golfing

Although Gettysburg is usually associated with the famous historical events which have taken place in the vicinity, today it is also known as a good place to go for golf packages in Pennsylvania. Six excellent courses are located in town, including the Links at Gettysburg, Carroll Valley Golf Resort, Mountain View Golf Club, Quail Valley Golf Club, and the Glade Valley Golf Club. Most full golf packages will include green fees to all six golf courses and hotel stays. While you are in the area, be sure to check out the Gettysburg National Military Park, site of the Battle of Gettysburg and a major tourist attraction.
